Pros

Almost weekly lunches purchased by the CTO. Good health benefits covered 100% by the company.

Cons

CTO was very hands-on to the extent that his involvement in the development cycle would not be able to progress from one stage to the next without his approval. Furthermore, he was unapproachable. An employee had to go to him with medical issues, and his only response was that he did not care, and that they "need to get [their] (expletive) together." Furthermore, it was expected that an employee worked greater than 40 hours a week. Typical average of hours worked exceeded 60. The company expressed the importance of a work/life balance, yet when employees brought it up, they were summarily shot down. The entire QA department lived in fear of not being perfect, as it was made abundantly clear from several members of management that if they missed something, they would be disciplined. This strict discipline had resulted in bringing a grown adult to tears due to the intensity of the verbal abuse. Employees were berated on a constant basis. The business model they employ will not last. They consistently made poor decisions. Sometimes the repercussions of these decisions trickled down to staff unjustly. I departed quickly from this company, and felt that it was one of the best decisions I have made in my career.

Again another difficult post to read - yet thanks for taking the time. Per your post, you mentioned that you departed quickly...I realize we've had some challenges. I'm hopeful your next move was a better fit. Best - pi

Pros

The downtown Denver location is very convenient. They have a nice office even though it is very empty. Very good work life balance.

Cons

The CEO and leadership team has a problem with communication. The company does not seem to know what to do. The culture is very poor.

Having built and scaled sales organization at both Gartner and CEB, this is a tough review coming from someone formerly in sales. As you know sales can often times be at the tip of spear when introducing new products - and I have an appreciation that we certainly don't have everything figured out. Sales executives must self start - CT is not an exception. I hope you find success.

Pros

Great overall team. The CTO is alright, but he doesn't honor his word. Read the fine print if you decide to work for them. They will try to screw you any chance they get.

Cons

The company will do whatever they can to pump results out of you and then throw you away when you're done. They've already fired their original Vice-President and most of the original development team is gone. They do not value team cohesion. They do not value you for more than what you can put in. Again, this concept is pretty standard for most businesses, however, if you're going to work your employees tons of hours (much more than 40 a week; and trust me you'll be working more than 40 a week), then you're going to have to compensate in return. All that matters is the bottom line. There's nothing wrong with that, after all, they are a business. But it's certainly not a place I'd want to work for. (And from which I eventually left).

No doubt we've experienced chop within the development function - and while we have made changes amongst the leadership team (mutual and amicable separation), the former CTO absolutely had the right intention. He is technically brilliant and without his efforts we would not be where we are today - I submit this to you not as an excuse, rather a simple fact. In the beginning our CTO ran the technical side of the equation and I sales. Our results speak for themselves, yet I'm conscious they came at a cost - and I realize it's more than an economic cost. This has been a lesson learned as we continue to make progress. Thanks for the note - pi
