Pros

1) Paid vacation - If you work there for 1 year you get 5 days paid vacation, 2-5 years you get 10 days of paid vacation which make family vacations or even personal time nice. 10+ years is 3 weeks, 15+ you get 4 weeks paid vacation. Who doesn't like paid vacation? 2) Health Coverage - The health coverage offered is decent. I can see whoever I want and not have to worry about steep out of pocket costs. 3) They recognize the efforts put out by employees. Did you get mentioned in a survey or did a guest brag about your tremendous help to your management? The hotel I worked for offered monetary recognition and mentioned any positive reviews guests put in in our daily huddles. It's always good to know what you're doing good and what a guest said about you. They also put on monthly Employee of the month luncheons and a yearly Employee of the Year luncheons where the hotel staff pick an employee who goes above and beyond for the hotel. 4) You meet all kinds of people from all over the place. 5) Their Dayforce payroll system. If you're computer saavy this is a God-send, if you're not...then not so much. It's a mixed bag really. I absolutely love it. I enjoy my job most of the time, the people I work with are great most of the time and the customers can really make my day awesome but then again I could get one customer that can really ruin my day and make feel like crap.. However with every place of employment, there are definitely cons. Which I'll put down below.

Cons

1) Open door policy sucks. Have a problem with co-workers harassing you, don't expect upper management to do anything about it. You're on your own with this one. If you get too direct or rude, you could end up being the one being written up. 2) Management loves to play favorites. Yep, this one ties in with number 1 and number 3 too. If you're not brown-nosing, you won't get noticed pretty much. 3)There's absolutely no opportunity to move up in the company, trust me, I work for one of their hotels that's had a high turnover rate in management for front desk, I've gone up for the position numerous times only to be told I wasn't cut out for it. If you're not brown-nosing you won't be management material even though you've done everything you can to prove you're cut out for the position. I've quit trying. Be prepared for the glass ceiling. 4) Dental coverage - It's a joke. Don't even bother with it, hardly any dentists accept it and if you need dental work done you're better just paying out of pocket then going through delta dental. Delta Dental is the bane of dental insurance. Trust me on this. 5) Micro-management. It's gotten worse over the years. Granted I've been working for this company for 4 years...but in the beginning we could pretty much do tasks whichever way was easiest and simplest for us. It made me super-proficient and gave me an edge in the front desk position as I could share my techniques with new hires and fellow co-workers. Now however, we have to do things a certain way otherwise it could mean write-ups, disciplinary actions or termination even if it takes a bazillion steps to get it done when doing it another way could be so much simpler and less time consuming. 5) You could have your whole work ethic questioned and be blamed for other co-workers failings. Or be threatened with termination for having an off day. 6) Be prepared to be harassed by phone calls, have to read emails and have correspondence with your co-workers, management and commonwealth director outside of your work hours, on vacation, on fmla leave...pretty much anytime. I think this has been pretty much the norm anymore with the intrusion of smart phones.

Thank you for your comments. Our Open Door Policy is very important to who we are as a company and not every concern will be addressed to the associates satisfaction, but regardless of the reason someone comes forward I can assure you we take it very serious and try to resolve our associates complaints to the best of our ability. It sounds like you have had some wonderful experiences with Commonwealth and I hope that you have more positive experiences than negative. We are not perfect, but we do believe that by taking care of our associates, they in turn will take better care of our guests.

Pros

The people are nice and they are very accomodating to schedule. The management is nice and so are many of the people that I work with. Commonwealth does to some degree value their associates.

Cons

Its very hard to advance. Its a rather small company and the benefits aren't the best. It seems like once you get in a position you are stuck there for quite some time.

Pros

Great for Line level associates, terrible for salary management great for limited service, company is still working on how to operate full service hotels again benefits (with the exception of their terrible 401k program) is great

Cons

A full service hotel is run differently then a limited service, but don't tell the VP's Micromanaged from corporate office on daily tasks salaried managers are expected to work 7 days a week with no benefits (even 6 12 hour days with no additional 'thank you' - or on a slower week taking an extra day) saving money while running your staff into the ground is why there is a high turnover of management If you are female - depending on your property, the ceiling is real for you. Unfortunately, they are still working on having women in high positions at their hotels.
