Pros

The supervisors don’t care what you do so it’s a free pay check. If your a supervisor you do pretty much what you want while clocked in. The overnight shifts are easy , you can sleep if you are cool with the overnight supervisors. Most of the time the agency don’t clean the group homes until inspection time. It’s a easy job. The rec events are a time to work and enjoy yourself. The agency will hide things for you if you become under investigation by DCP&P or DD.

Cons

The worst thing about this job is watching what the members go through. The youth goes AWOL and they don’t even report it to the DCP&P hotline. The staff is always eating the members food due to a lack of supervision. The DD members are being taken advantaged of with the rep payee services they offer. I was once working in the program and seen a Director sign a over the counter prescription form as if they were a doctor. It’s really sad what goes on there. I have seen members go to the bathroom in there pants and staff leave them to sit in urine. It’s a money grab agency. All of the Black and Spanish employees work at the programs , where the pay is bad. If you go to the main office all you will see is white people. Sidney Blanchard and Bernadette acts more like kids then adults. They curse at staff and is very rude. If the state ever went back and did some real investigation that place would close down. Lying on doctor forms , not reporting awols , member abuse and much more. I have kept records of so much stuff in the event that the state ever called me in for questioning.

This is an inaccurate representation of our Agency that has been supporting people in the community for over 30 years. Our hardworking staff give their time, energy and talent to ensure that CAU has a positive and successful atmosphere so members can thrive. At CAU we make it our mission to treat everyone with dignity and respect – that extends to our members and staff. There’s an open door policy at CAU in hopes that if something occurs, staff will feel comfortable expressing their issues

We are a non-profit organization that helps people in our community. Our positions may pay less than a similar position in a corporate setting but our employees value our comprehensive benefits package and training programs. We hope employees that work for us have a strong community connection and want to help individuals succeed.

Pros

The events coordinator does a great job of planning fun events for the members. As staff, you are able to attend these events for free. If you last long enough, they have great insurance options. You may bond with some of the members and have the chance to improve their lives in a meaningful way. Trainings you can take to other jobs.

Cons

You can be switched from your home program at any time without your approval. Low pay for what you're doing. You may be assigned to a program with high functioning members or you may get assigned to a program that requires you to change diapers. You never know. Coworkers sometimes have more behavioral problems than the members. On call is incredibly abusive. Call outs are SEVERELY discouraged. The list goes on and on. Ask any former employee.
