There are many good points to working at CSI and a few downsides, but overall it is interesting to work here.
Pros
The pay is above the average, compared to other companies in adult residential. Every counselor makes the same amount. The initial on the job training is very good. Many of the Program Managers are fair and want to help their staff to succeed and advance in the organization. It is a joy to work with many of the individuals who live in the programs. It is an excellent place for those just out of college with no job experience. It is also excellent for those who need unusual work hours. Most work hours are 3p-11p, 11p-9a overnights (awake) Great for those wishing to continue their education. The organization does offer some tuition reimbursement. Vacation accrual is very good. They do require that you take 80 hours of vacation every year to avoid burn out.
Cons
The advertisement for the position in the newspapers is very misleading. You work with adults, some of whom need a lot of direct care (assistance with toileting, bathing, cooking and cleaning up after them). There are many with behavioral issues. You are trained in how to deal with many of the behaviors. This is not advertised at any point until you are basically in the position. Almost everyone works at least 1 if not both weekend days. There are no snow days you are expected to report to work even in the most difficult weather. We provide services 24/7/365. There are no merit based pay increases.
