Pros

When the clinic was purchased 2022-2023 it seemed like a great thing. Mental health advocacy, empathy and understanding for employee daily struggles within clinic settings, low pay, understaffed, burnout etc.

Cons

All of the above came to a halt, mental health dept was minimized. Percentage for wage increase went down significantly. The same clinic settings, with the make more money mentality and less room for growth on cost of living. After 11 years (last two with companion) I was fired, the reasons they had I saw as excuses. I thought I was helping my clinic, but 90 days later I was out. A decade of my life was gone, without a second thought. Pay cut or demotion, in hopes to stay, was not an option for THEM.

Pros

The remaining staff who haven't yet been pushed out are excellent and the reason anything still works.

Cons

Leadership culture, job insecurity by design, and erosion of the values the company was originally built on. I came to Companion Pet Partners because it was different. The group seemed to genuinely value relationships, staff, and patient care alongside business growth. That company no longer exists. Over the past stretch, leadership has shifted toward people whose priorities are visibly tied to short term financial metrics and personal bonuses rather than the long term health of the practice or its staff. Strong, experienced team members have been let go. In some cases their replacements were announced in the same meeting. Whether or not that is legal, it sends a clear message to everyone still there. You are a line item, and your standing depends on staying useful to the right people. The downstream effect is what you would expect. Staff make decisions out of fear rather than judgment, because one misstep can put you on a list. In veterinary medicine that does not just hurt morale. It affects patient care, because people stop advocating and stop pushing back when something is wrong. There are still good people here, the ones who built what this place used to be. They are increasingly being edged out and replaced with friends and former colleagues of upper management.

Pros

When I started at CPP, the other members of the core (headquarters) team were incredible. We were aligned with a powerful mission and vision that we all believed, and really worked together to make it a great place for people to work.

Cons

As they started shedding core members of the team (always telling people they had “left for another opportunity even when they had been laid off), it became very obvious that those roles were being backfilled by pals and cronies on the Cortec equity group board, rather than veterinary business professionals with a vested interest in the success of the people at the hospital level. Everything became (and, I hear, has only become more so) laser focused on wringing every drop of revenue from the people working at the hospitals while cutting every unethical and probably illegal corner they can. There is now not a single person working for the core team that is a veterinarian or even a dedicated veterinary professional. They have also asked their investors (many of whom were swindled into investing under false promises) to give even more of their money because they’re spending it so fast lining the pockets of the C-suite. Also, they have laid off (aka fired without cause) a dozen or more people by saying that position was being eliminated, only to reopen the role soon after for another person.

Thank you for taking time to share your feedback. We understand that change is not always easy. The leadership and Support team (formerly Core team) has evolved to become a hospital-centric team instead of a corporate team. The support team is dedicated to the health and success of our network of hospitals. We are focused on serving the needs of our team members, which includes our veterinarians, our clinical staff and our client services team members who do great work every day. We strive to build an engaging work place where every team member is valued, recognized for their hard work and appreciated.
