Pros

After careful thought and in light of the events in the last year or so I can not seem to list any " best reasons " to work for Conway freight, but I will say that I have made some fine friends while employed there, the equipment is fair to good. However that"s about it, except for the health insurance package, Now it is a very good one, but that to is not expected too survive the changes that are being made at Conway freight, but then again that is only speculation, but is based on past history with Conway freight.

Cons

Management, They do not know who brought them to the dance, The drivers and customers are the heart of this company, They, cut driver wages, stop contributions to pensions, and steal vacations, Yet they sponsor a race truck, truck driving rodeo, they have company cars leased at a cost of over 2 million dollars a year, Yet they closed forty service centers and laid off 2500 employees. They lie , spin truth , steal from, take advantage of , they hide behind an antiquated law so that they do not have to pay overtime , and in general do not care about the most important asset they have DRIVER"s

Pros

The pay starting out here is very good wont complain about that but It don't last for long being HONEST!!!

Cons

strikes: They are VERY strick: it came down to me hooking up my dolly and the pintle hook came up and busted off the gladhand off my trailer and I was doing it as trained and under Idle speed and those glad hands are made of pot metal cheap crap but anyways they gave me a strike for it and terminated me for being honest and as in conways terms "Intergrity-Do the right thing" lost my job. SO for advice if you haven't crashed with sumone else or killed someone the best thing to save your job is "LIE" or fix it yourself without no one noticing cause coming forward with them just gets you terminated! Thanks Con-way!

Pros

The company finely got management right at the Reno service center. After going through 13 service center managers the present one is really good to work for and with. If you have to drive a truck for a living Con-way ain't too bad. I had to L.O.L. when I heard a few of their service centers voted for the union. Now everyone gets a big raise and they turned the trucks back up to 65.

Cons

After 31 years I have seen the company go from a great 'family type of operation' and we will always take care of you, to lets see how much less we can pay you. In 2006 they froze the defined retirement plan at the then levels. That cost me about $231,000 over 20 years of retirement or $963 per month. Years ago to save fuel they slowed the trucks down to 62 M.P.H. that cost me 1 hour more a day, every day, no extra pay just more of my time. I was a line driver and paid by the mile so speed was a big factor Medical went from Cadillac to something like Obama care and that's what they blamed it all on. No one in management has the power to change anything. They have to ask the main office for permission to use the restroom. Over the years I have talked to every one in upper management that I came into contact with to no avail. Not that I am a complainer, I just saw things that were really dumb. When you have worked at a company longer then some of the management has been alive you would think they would at least listen. For the last ten years I would have been first in line to vote for the union!!! I just missed it by a few months. I should have stayed to see what would happen next. Don't miss it but still upset. This is just a short list of complaints. I know I am just wasting my time here but I feel better for it.
