Pros

• Overtime pay - more money compared to other CPA firms • Excellent work-life balance • Able to learn different parts of a business • Nice coworkers • Variety of clients • Small to medium sized businesses make for a more intimate learning experience • Opportunity to interact with client and management daily • Not just a number

Cons

• Lack of training or real onboarding experience • Certain management can be condescending, rude, lazy, and disorganized • Less benefits than other companies (no 401K, less PTO, some CPA reimbursement) • Old technology and some management does not want to update facilities • No formal mentorship program • Management was very hesitant about work from home even during a global pandemic

Pros

Don't work excessive amounts of OT during busy season Some of the people who work there are friendly and welcoming

Cons

Your experience is largely dictated by which partner you end up working under, and there is a huge difference between how partners treat their staff HR basically consists of one person who is generally slow to respond to emails The firm is slow to change (i.e. bonus offered for passing CPA pretty low and started being offered as of 2020, remote work only ever offered because of COVID shut down and no financial aid offered to help employees be able to work from home, employees outside of audit department have to supply their own laptops/computers to be able to work remote, firm doesn't allow accrual of vacation days and as of 2020 was offering staff level employees 15 days PTO instead of 10 days) If you get hired outside of the tax or audit department, can be difficult to leave the firm and continue in public accounting without CPA Can be difficult to be promoted; firm has slow growth and opportunities to advance dependent on management leaving firm (except for audit department) Firm offers to allow staff to transfer between departments, usually need CPA before allowing transfer and, if offered, happens on the partners' schedule (if you don't start in audit/tax and hope to get audit/tax experience, often takes about 2 years from start date before being able to get tax/audit experience/transfer and need CPA)
