Pros

Loved the perks! Great wine, beer and spirits. They offer a gym, a beautiful building, parking garage, great cafeteria/lounge with a deck. Pay is decent. This was a dream job for me. I was so thrilled and excited to work there, it was a dream come true!

Cons

Unfortunately, the problem is with the people that work there. The culture is catty, and deceitful. Many of the original employees that put in 100% to build this company, were eventually fired instead of being integrated into new positions as they reorganized. This was a serious red flag for me when I started, I felt like they were somewhat disloyal to many people that deserved a raise and a promotion, but instead got a pink slip. Then as the years went by I saw what was really happening. It was like being in high school, very clicky and people would lie, cheat and steal to climb over you to compete for your job or any other promotion you were going for. They had no problem blackballing you and ruining your career path. The rules did not apply to those determined pack leaders or their special employees. I saw people scream, cuss and leave the building and management called them to console them, while others who gently rocked the boat to stand up for themselves got fired. Some of the people managing this company are good people. Others are backstabbing corporate climbers that have loyalty to a distinct few, and will follow their every request from pack members to attain their goals. Let me make one thing clear, this is not "a competitive environment", it is more "survival of the fittest" in a popularity contest. So, if you are not interested in playing politics, you may want to steer clear. Because when your number comes up, your done. Very disheartening!

Pros

They provide a lot of benefits. If you like to drink, an annual reimbursement. Somewhat flexible work environment depending on your manager and department head. (HR doesn't support flexible work environments for anyone but management. Therefore, good managers ignore them.) If you want to work at CBI, apply for a job in the beer division. Beer will be the flagship business for CBI in the not-too-distant future anyway. Wine will be a by-line. Beer management team appears to be more competent and progressive with better ratios between men/women and baby boomers/millenials.

Cons

Booting out baby boomers who have been the company backbone for the past 20+ years and replacing them with the "know it all" generation which is very difficult to work with. Their constant checking of their smartphone and FB page in meetings is not only distracting but disruptive. The facility events (almost monthly) used to be fun but they turned into drunk fests. Putting in the bar for Friday "tastings" was a bad idea! Never had problems in the 12+ years I was there with someone getting a DWI ticket - until last September! You guessed it - it was a millenial! You rarely see baby boomers at the tastings anymore. Everyone in the building used to know each other and now there is a clear generational division that is permeating the entire organization. Unless you are hired into finance or marketing management, there is little advancement opportunity. Be a good a--kissing, backstabbing, or undermining woman and you'll go far. Which leads me to my next point, they are hiring too many women and not enough men. What does this mean? Wage suppression, ladies! There is better compensation in the beer division. Don't assume you can get hired in the wine division and flip to the beer division. Your chances of getting pigeon-holed or having your application pulled in HR by your manager are pretty good in the wine division. You can be 'black balled" for reasons unknown to you. If you've spoken to your manager about advancement and nothing has happened for 3 years - LEAVE! Don't stick around and listen to the "I'm working on it" b.s. You'll be wasting your time and talent. Too many politics throughout the organization. If you don't like wading waist deep in politics on a daily basis, this IS NOT the company for you.
