Pros

Literally cannot think of a single pro. It's remote work, but it's not professional. I felt like I was working at a 7/11. I was excited to start working at State, and this company did not even let me on-board properly.

Cons

Interviewed in October, was given a mid-November start date. Had to wait for a clearance, but instead of on-boarding me like a professional company, they moved my start date back by two weeks. They hired a second person to do the same job and had her start two weeks earlier than me. I finally started work on December 1. I got a laptop on December 7 and started on-boarding on that day. I was let go on December 16 and I was blamed for it, despite the fact that I had not even finished on-boarding. Extremely micro-managerial, felt like I had to ask for lunch breaks even though I was working remotely. Was given no technology from the company, and yet was expected to use my personal laptop and phone for all CRG contact. When my phone broke, I went during work hours to get a new phone from Apple, because I literally could not communicate if I was not at my desk. This was cited as a "poor behavior." I thought it was rather critical given that I had no other way to check email if I was not immediately in front of my laptop and was not given any resources by the company. I found the whole ordeal to be the least professional encounter I have ever had. The State Department should not work with this company. There is no expertise from an intellectual perspective, and the vibe is incredibly trashy. I have an MBA and another graduate degree. I have 12 years of work experience.

Small business contractor and everything with it

Pros

It’s government contract work. As long as you know that, you know you’ll be getting all the federal holidays and most of the time the government side will not contact you after 5. Also, unlike some of the larger contracting firms, CRG does not expect you to network and search for new business. The benefits are pretty good for a contractor.

Cons

It’s a family run business. For those who have worked at family run businesses, you know what I mean. For those who haven’t: it means there is rampant favoritism and different rules for those in the family and those not. The turnover is very high on my contract because they hire warm bodies over best qualified. And don’t expect much of a raise. We didn’t even get cost of living.

Pros

This is an outstanding organization. The leadership is strong and transparent, managing to be both customer and employee centric. Core values carry through in their business and in working with people. I don't work there now, but would go back in a heartbeat.

Cons

None. Given this rough and tumble world of government contracting (and the shady people out there), these guys (gals) do it right. If they invite you to join the team...do it.
