Pros

Excellent benefits; health and retirement. Acceptable pay. Opportunities for bonuses. Work at your own pace. Not micromanaged. Residents will make your job worth it. Lots of experience gained. Absolutely amazing schedule for nurses and really appreciate no on call, allows for a chance to have a realistic work/life balance.

Cons

Archaic infrastructure - everything is done on paper. Leads to a slow process when it comes to nursing. Can miss information easily. Paper MARs make med pass slow and sometimes stressful; too much of a chance to make med errors. Outdated technology. Med rooms need to be updated for proper work environment. Getting tasks done in a timely manner can be cumbersome due to having to run around campus so much.

Abusive place for clients and employees. They make their own rules.

Pros

The clients are amazing. I loved seeing them every day and miss them very much. Staff development team is amazing.. it's just when you get to the units that it gets bad.

Cons

Staff are horrible and have bad attitudes. No respect what so ever. Don't come in as an RCSS off the street they will not train you. you have no authority to write staff up and when you need to house supervisor does not stand behind you at all. Shift coordinators are lazy and don't wanna come out to resolve issues when you need them but they want to bug you about little crap. Medical department neglects clients and tries to throw it on the staff. When you are the one doing your best they reprimand you and let the staff continue to work. Switchbord operators and HR staff are plain rude. Do not work here your life will be miserable.

Pros

Decent pay. Easy to get hired, though it is a long process. Tons of training (no experience necessary.) Spiritually rewarding.

Cons

Lot's of drama between employees. Most of them act like high students. Very stressful- you're sometimes stuck between the rules and doing what's best for the person. Many lazy employees, and the hard workers are left to do it all. If everything doesn't get done perfectly, everyone gets in trouble, even though the hard workers did everything in their power to do everyone's jobs. Too much responsibility is put on individuals. Example: You may be asked to sign forms, stating that you are being held personally responsible for the safety and whereabouts of a resident and must keep them in your sight at all times. Problem? Only when you're asked to 'sign on' to 3 individuals at one time. If one person starts to run off, you must chase them and redirect them back to where the others are. If, during that time, another person runs off, you may not know which way they went, and you may be fired and put on the state's abuse and neglect list for it. As I mentioned before, working there is very stressful. I didn't lose my job over this kind of thing or anything like that, but that made it very stressful. Also, it's almost impossible to get a weekend day off of work- even after the death of a family member.
