Don't drink the cool-aid at this place!

Pros

It is heartbreaking to note that, as a former employee, the only "pro" I can really stand by is that the food is good and that CooperRiis can attract some quality people. The food continues to be good, but the quality staff quickly move along.

Cons

CooperRiis is a privately funded, for profit treatment spa. If you are looking for a place that cares about the quality of the clinical treatment provided, do not go to CooperRiis. If you tend to be a "follow the crowd" employee then this might be a good match, so long as you drink the CR cool-aid. The folks that stay at CR, stay forever. They are usually "groomed" from youth (early 20's) and make their way up the ladder, regardless of their clinical acumen. CooperRiis does not welcome, new people, new ideas or change and will respond to it with a resounding "That's not the way we do things here!" should you attempt to bring them into the new century. Management are the "twenty somethings" turned forty somethings that floated to the top. They are more interested in their power than running an extraordinary clinical program. They will talk poorly of you behind your back and behave inappropriately in meetings. This place is a cult of sorts...beware.

Classic Non-Profit Turned Corporate Grind Story

Pros

Everybody believes in the mission of equality/equity and reducing stigma for individuals with mental health challenges. The employees are lovely, I've met some gems working there.

Cons

Offensively low pay while upper management gets paid way too much; have enacted some very corporate policies in the past few years, used to have a family feel but now feels like exploitative labor & classic capitalism; intense hierarchy where it's really hard to be trusted or taken seriously unless you've been there for years, are a white male, or have previously been a clinical director of any gender; incredibly corporate policies that treat employees like products/workhorses and does not take into account that we do incredibly taxing emotional labor all day long; say they're woke and anti-racist but they're just not; if you're a white male with seniority you will be protected no matter how badly you screw up

Pros

- Great step down program - decent hours - wonderful patients - intelligent psychiatrist - good intentions - healthy food

Cons

- the residential program is unprofessional - sometimes patients had less therapy than they had when they were living at home - almost all patients are put on very expensive supplements that create an expense for them that will make them forever dependent unless they're able to get a 6 figure job... as many as 15 different supplements (high quality and well reviewed, but expensive) - administration has a lack of knowledge or interest in hearing about the possible interactions between medications and supplements that make the medications less effective and require medications be given at higher doses, thus creating a more uncomfortable side effect profile - company was founded and is still run by well-intentioned people with no training in medicine or mental health - unreasonable on-call expectations
