The good and the bad

Pros

-Your coworkers. You will work with some of the best nurses and teamwork is unmatched, at least on my floor. -They currently pay more than University Medical Center. -The Christian mission is evident, but religious beliefs aren't pushed on employees or patients of other/no faiths. -A good mix of "old" and "new" nurses. -Paid time off and sick time hours are combined and can be used for either purpose.

Cons

- Despite local human resources offices, everything must be submitted via email, to an office in California. I have never received a response via email and HR staff are dismissive when you call on the phone for assistance. Supervisors do not return phone calls. - Covenant does not hire phlebotomists--nurses do all lab draws. -At least on my floor, self-scheduling exists in name only. You rarely work the days you schedule for yourself and will seldom work three days in a row (e.g., Monday, Tuesday, Friday or Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday). - Patient assignments are frequently random and not grouped by proximity or acuity. Nurses on my floor routinely have patients from one end of the hallway to the opposite end (e.g., 63, 69, 77, 85, 91). If you work two days in a row, many times you will not get the same patients back. -Retirement plan options are limited and matching percentages are practically non-existent. - Double charting is the norm--digitally and pen/paper.
