Pros

Leadership evidently puts a lot of thought into doing things the right way and making it a good place to work, and this sets the culture. My colleagues are friendly, funny, competent people. Even though most of our interactions are online, I still feel like there is a general interest in connecting and getting to know each other. Currently a small collaborative team that trust and work well together, everyone wants to do the right thing by the client. I've only been here a relatively short time, but there doesn't seem to be much drama/egos/politics and there isn't a single person who annoys me (which is unusual for a workplace!) For someone coming from a client-facing technology background, the clients are refreshingly diverse and enjoyable to work with. The projects are diverse and there are plenty of new challenges. Women are very well-represented in technical roles.

Cons

If you're new to professional services, then entering timecards and focusing on billable utilization rates will probably be an adjustment. There is a start-up "feel" which is both a pro and a con. Ultimately I enjoy the flexibility of processes still in development, but there is still some confusion and inefficiency around who owns what and how things are done. Everyone is well-intentioned and communicative though and we figure it out. Outside of gender, the team is not particularly diverse demographically. There is clearly desire to become more diverse, without knowing how. Not a ton of options for progression at the moment, but certification and professional development is encouraged and rewarded.

Pros

Talented, supportive colleagues who care about their work Meaningful client projects and real opportunities to contribute Collaborative and encouraging peer-level culture in some teams

Cons

I worked at CTG for just under a year and initially spoke positively about the company. I joined with good intentions and appreciated many aspects of the work — especially my colleagues, team collaboration, and client projects. Even when it became clear that the position wasn’t the best long‑term fit, I stayed committed because I valued the people and wanted to make it work. After completing my exit process and returning equipment, I stopped by the CEO’s office to thank him and end on a respectful note. Instead, the brief conversation turned unexpectedly hostile. He told me I was a “bad hire,” that the company “chose wrong,” and that he “wished we hadn’t hired you.” These comments were repeated and delivered in a raised voice, with further remarks about never rehiring me or serving as a reference — even though I hadn’t asked. The meeting ended with him telling me to leave because I was “torturing us both by standing here.” I left distraught and humiliated. Later, I learned similar comments had been made about me to a colleague shortly after I gave notice, indicating this behavior wasn’t isolated. That made me deeply question the company’s leadership culture. What I had hoped would be a professional and respectful closure became an unnecessarily personal and disparaging experience. Before this, I viewed CTG positively — particularly the supportive colleagues and meaningful work. However, leadership sets the tone for company culture. My experience with the CEO during my exit changed how I view CTG overall and makes it difficult to recommend despite the many good people who work there.

Pros

People are kind, friendly, supportive, and helpful. 100% remote environment with the option to work from the Boston office. The portfolio is almost all non-profits so you feel like you’re helping a lot of great causes from behind the scenes. Employee-owned as of this summer, and staff are encouraged to keep learning and growing with financial incentives and internal promotions. Good work/life balance and benefits. Overall a wonderful place to work

Cons

The only complaint I have is that it’s not very racially diverse, but that is a goal they have been working on for some time and want to change
