Sad Excuse of a College

Pros

Free coffee. Paycheck (if you don’t mind being underpaid). Nepotism (if you’re related to an administrator OR your family donates money to the college). Very inclusive (if you’re rich and you’re white).

Cons

Everything. Crowder College is behind 99.9% of other colleges in terms of technology, programming, and general processes. If you try to create positive change, you will be bullied by an administrator if you work in Student Affairs AND THEN, she will take credit for the work you do. Don’t bother trying to report any issues to Human Resources... they are in her pocket. It may as well be called Slinkard College. Insecure, pathetic leadership at its finest! DO NOT WORK HERE.

Can Be Good, Can Be Bad

Pros

The instructors and office staff were awesome people I enjoyed working with very much. The job itself took care of my monthly living expenses while I studied. Abundant coffee and flexible hours.

Cons

The arrogant and narcissistic treatment I received from some of the higher-ups (which come with just about any job really). That in turn is reflective of a toxic work culture at Crowder that has sadly become the behind the scenes norm over the past few years. As a work-study, my exposure to the toxicity was relatively minimal and my bosses did their best to make sure I was insulated from the drama, but they were not always successful. The pay was very low (which is typical of any student job) and I never received a promised raise. As a student worker, accept that you will not enjoy the benefits the faculty enjoy and whatever you do, don't get your hopes up that the work-study position will guarantee you an internal position or opportunity at Crowder...even if an opening for your chosen degree comes up. Just treat the work-study position for what it is: A way to replenish your income while you study and something to add just a little *oomph* to your resume. If you can accept that, you'll do fine. And always be on your guard from behind the scenes drama and don't get involved in affairs that ultimately have nothing to do with you or your studies.

Pros

The students are great and the purpose behind the job is meaningful

Cons

They let toxic employees dominate and run away loyal, amazing workers!! I've watched tons of faithful, amazing workers leave for this reason
