Go there to learn, not to get ahead

Pros

You will learn a great deal about the investment industry, both investment fundamentals and the business models of other broker dealers in the industry. They have a unique product. You will have your weekends open for personal life.

Cons

The management is horrific! Upper management are all cronies who only look out for each other. They spend too much time patting each other on the back and not enough time addressing issues to improve product, employee relations, or knowledge base. The only way to get anywhere in the company is to become a golden child of upper management. During expansions of territories, few promotions were given to current employees. Soon after expansion, layoffs occurred in other territories. Performance is tied very closely with external partners' performance. If they cannot perform, it is a direct representation of your contribution to the company.
