Pros

Like the fast food industry can be a useful baptism of fire for someone who has never worked before, Cvent grinds its college employees hard and gives them valuable skills they can and should take elsewhere.

Cons

Despite values about being horizontal, this is easily the most hierarchical organisation I've ever worked for (and I've worked for government). Whether its management, HR, Legal, finance, Marketing/sales etc, no one can seem to actually make a decision. Everyone's hands are tied by a policy or a metric that dictates how they should work. Each month, a new metric or policy will be introduced, making the job harder to do over time and making collaborating a slower and slower process.

Pros

A good SaaS product Varied Internal tech stack Nice team of mature sales people

Cons

MICROMANAGEMENT - treating staff like children and talking down to them, strict role of no talking in the office (more on this below) multiple zoom calls without notice when WFH (checking up on you). Asking you to immediately send your notes over to them after a client meeting so they can see how you take notes on the fly. So many more things that made my time here the unhappiest I have been in a job - I could write a thesis on my short lived Cvent career. FAVOURITISM - there is a clear YOY pattern of one individual achieving over 300% whilst the other reps finish on 50-60% - whilst yes this is also done with hard work, having the best territory, sometimes two dedicated SDR’s, a full enterprise patch but also being allowed to get involved in the other rep’s sales process creates a toxic and environment. People feel like they don’t stand a chance. MANAGEMENT - where to start!? I have never experienced a senior manager in a ‘top 1%’ company talk to and about the reps they hired so poorly. Calling them lazy and moving at slower pace than their “70 year old grandma”. Also very degrading about Australians and Australian culture - lazy once again. Management run weekly sales meetings but it’s usually just one manager speaking at everybody like a dictator, mostly pointing out the negatives - nobody comes out of that meeting room pumped - very uninspiring. CULTURE - There is a rule in place that you aren’t allowed to talk in the office to your colleagues or manager, not even about work related things - we were shouted and swore at by Snr Management for talking about something work related at 1pm on a Friday. Another time three of us were bought into a meeting room at 5.15pm on a Friday as we were talking, management felt the need the had to reiterate our working hours were until 5.30. Once a colleague said to me that it was the most depressing place they had ever worked and Fridays felt like Mondays. NO BENEFITS - not even the basics (phone allowance etc) No team events or sales incentives. Also hardware is very basic - my mouse didn’t work, keyboard was old, no option for Mac users - very old school.

Pros

- You work with some great colleagues - Remote work throughout covid - Company is growing so there are opportunities

Cons

- Management really don't care about its people or the culture - They don't offer really any benefits at all (You don't get company planned events or parties that are paid for, no mat leave above gov minimum, no healthcare, no reimbursements for gym or health, no paid lunch or snacks etc - You will get micromanaged - They don't offer workplace flexibility - Always understaffed and people are overworked
