Honest and Friendly Company with Fantastic Art and Project Leads
Pros
My experience with Daedalic started as a 3D intern. I was paid a more than fair wage for this position and the experience I gained was invaluable. My art lead really took the time to get me accommodated to the systems and software I would be using, and always showed great enthusiasm and encouragement with my work. I have had refreshingly honest and warm interactions from everyone at all levels, including other artists, leads, project leads, HR and owners of the company. From my experience I have never been expected to work any over time, and those I have seen who worked over time voluntarily, were often given extra days off as a reward for their hard work. I have felt a great balance of guidance and freedom with my work which has helped me grow a lot in a short space of time. I never feel embarrassed to ask a question as the leads are always happy to share advice and information. An overall very warm, understanding and encouraging work place from a junior's perspective. A place I hope to be able to stay at a long time and people I can't wait to meet. I couldn't have asked for more for a first experience of the games industry.
Cons
With my experience only being remote due to the pandemic, it would have been nice to have more interactions with my colleagues, there has not been a lot of opportunities to learn from other people. However I don't feel like this is a fault of the company, and it is countered by the efficiency that they have ran everything else online. It would be nice to have a fully secure job, instead of extended contracts. However, that being said, the transparency and honesty about the reasons why this couldn't be granted are appreciated and understandable. Again I feel like this is something out of the companies control and not something they should be penalised for.
