Pros

- The company invests in good technology platforms to advance business objectives, such as Salesforce - Human Resources department makes positive attempts at hosting lunches/dinners/activities to improve corporate culture - CSR manager does a lot to make positive strides for the department, most of which goes unrecognized by upper management because she doesn't fit into their social paradigm.

Cons

- Poor retention with good employees who truly make a difference - Very HIGH turnover in almost all departments, which is symptomatic of weak management - Executive Leadership teams prefer to be surrounded by "Yes, Sir" individuals that go along with whatever ideas are proposed. Questioning business plans or introducing better ways of accomplishing tasks are frowned upon. - The company is extremely cliquish. If you aren't involved with the "in crowd" you don't exist. - Job security with this organization is unstable. I've seen people come in for a day of work, only to find out that they have been fired and have to pack up their cubicle and leave. No one that I've worked with feels secure in their role at Donan and have expressed concern. - Executive Leadership team has made many snide remarks about the CEO, Lyle Donan questioning his capability as a leader. Oftentimes, I've wondered what he would think if he knew what his own team says about him. - Diversity is not something you'll find at Donan, they prefer cookie cutter individuals

We thank you for taking the time to write a review on Glassdoor. We are glad you appreciated our HR department and the company's efforts to invest in 21st century technology. It sounds like there were a few areas where we fell short. As always, we encourage all employees to discuss their concerns with management and try to create an open environment with a genuine family-like feel. We sincerely wish you good luck in your new career endeavors.

Pros

The work is very interesting. Working as a Structural Forensic Engineer is one of the most interesting utilizations of your engineering degree. You have freedom in scheduling your assignments and are not stuck at a desk day in and day out.

Cons

The management team are yes men for the CEO. Many of the new operations management team and regional management staff have little to no background in forensic engineering. As you develop your network in the forensic engineering industry, you find that Donan engineers are the least respected and lowest paid engineers in the industry. Leaving employment with them is a nightmare, as you are restricted with a non-compete clause. The turnover ratio is absolutely terrible. Yes, you get a company vehicle and that would normally be a good thing, but you get a mini-van with the corporate logos plastered all along the exterior. You are essentially driving a rolling billboard advertising the company. You also get shirts with the company logo embroidered on them. Unless you want to wear the same two shirts day in and day out, you have to buy additional shirts from the personnel department. Work / life balance is terrible. The senior management team does not seem care about the high turnover rates, they even tell you during training that their average engineer only lasts approximately 3 years. The bonus structure changes every year, and never to the advantage of the engineers. Before you take this job, compare the offers from other forensic engineering firms, you will quickly realize that the pay is low, the "target" bonus is a joke, and the non-compete limits you from continuing your career in a very interesting field.

Pros

Used to be field oriented, and work/life balance was the center. Benefits as 401k and health were great. Team work promoted.

Cons

Became too focus on upper management, forgetting about the field. Low base pay. Hard to achieve bonuses without working 60+ hrs a week. Management doesn’t care about the field well being as individuals...just the financials.
