Overall A Very Good Small Company

Pros

DPRA is a small company and each office feels like a small family. Senior management communicates effectively with their employees and knows just about everyone that works under them. Also, the benefits here are great.

Cons

DPRA relies heavily on government contracts which might be their own downfall. Also, not too sure if the company will exist in the long term. Senior management seems to want to cash out of the company.

We are diversifying out contracts, expanding our capabilities (e.g just certified as CMMI level 3) and growth is our primary objective.

Pros

Small public sector consulting firm means little to no bureaucracy or hierarchy really. Remote work with chances to travel in northern territories of canada, meaningful work with Indigenous partners, coworkers are kind, hard working and collaborative, CEO and executive team is very experienced. Go into Toronto office a few times a year for all staff days (they fly you in), must work/live in Canada. Good competitive pay and benefits, bonuses and salary increases yearly, profit sharing at more senior levels.

Cons

Sometimes hard to get senior folks attention on things as there is so much focus on project work and billable time. Need to self-advocate for opportunities particularly if more junior.

I think what the individual is referring to is an effort to grow the business by management. As such, management looks at all avenues to include merger and acquisition, infusion of capital to fuel growth and expansion, joint ventures and other techniques. That is what they get paid for. We have a vibrant business development that has reaped huge benefits. Use the open door policy to address your perceptions.

Strive for Mediocrity

Pros

Everyone gets an office. Good environment for the self-disciplined and self-starters, with high level of patience. Don't have to try very hard to do an exceptional job. Good pay with better than average benefits.

Cons

No quality upper-level leadership. Management is based on tenure; not performance or value. Mediocrity is accepted as a good thing.
