Pros

The county is a great stepping stone for anyone looking to get as many certifications as possible in a short amount of time.

Cons

Horrible retirement and pension, no opportunities for advancement. Salary is low, no matter your experience or educational degree.

Pros

There is paid parking, employees are only required to work a small amount of overtime.

Cons

The Office of Independent Internal Audit has a hostile work environment. Staff and low-level managers are constantly harassed and treated with extreme disrespect and the morale is the lowest of any job I've ever worked. Everyone hates being at work, so the mood is depressing. Human Resources does not allow employees to contact them, so there is no protection for employees. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place!

Pros

Fire Rescue is a fast paced environment and one of the busiest in the country. Many recruits get more experience in 5 years with this department than anywhere else in the region. Staffed with knowledgeable veterans. Newly appointed Chief is a welcome change from past leadership. Training division has been recently empowered to get employees the classes they want to improve.

Cons

County government is extremely bureaucratic. No pay raises in almost seven years. Not an ideal place to live considering inner city poverty in many parts of the county. Desirable places to live are extremely expensive. Many employees want to live close to work but this isn't practical for the given salaries. Many stations are in serious disrepair and need to be renovated or rebuilt.
