The more you work, the better opportunities you'll get over time. The freedom to delve into a slew of topics may be the USP of this newsroom.

Cons

It's a pain to follow up with senior editors who may overlook serious/interesting ideas that deserve space in the paper. There are those people as well who have never worked in any other organisation but DH, and basically have zero exposure. They may play spoilsport for your enthusiasm and efforts.
