Pros

Strong DEIB initiatives, Excellent benefits and on-site amenities, Exciting projects and engaging clients.

Cons

While I worked in this role, I heard in-house chatter about previous rounds of layoffs before our team joined, followed by a hiring spree that brought in like half the company. when I was hired, I was excited to be there—I worked on a few projects and felt proud to land a role at a company that bragged about being voted one of the best places to work in Pittsburgh. I was thrilled by the opportunity to grow and genuinely optimistic about the future. It felt culturally important to so many of us to believe in this place and what it claimed to be. But it was all a facade. The energy in the office was tense because everyone was on high alert, worried they could be let go at any moment. The new hires were hopeful, only to face another round of mass layoffs just a few months later—my team was almost entirely let go. It was devastating, heartbreaking, and deeply demoralizing. Despite claiming to prioritize mental health and fostering a safe, supportive environment, the company repeatedly undermined its own promises. The hiring process was grueling—four rounds of interviews, panels, essays—and yet, after all that effort, they would hire you, let you go along with your team or department, and then rehire for the same role months later without reaching out to those they let go, even though they had promised to do so. The damage this causes to your spirit is profound. My advice: be cautious, harden yourself, and protect your emotional well-being. They treat employees like disposable—bringing them in for projects and letting them go while promising to return, but never following through.

Pros

Could add good experience to my resume, made good pay

Cons

My experience with this company was really disappointing. The office environment, especially among some of the women, was toxic and unwelcoming. One woman in particular seemed to create her own narrative and treated people based purely on personal preference. If she didn’t like you for whatever reason, she made it clear—and others followed her lead. They claim to be inclusive, but that wasn’t my experience. It felt like kindness and respect were only given to people they personally approved of. The atmosphere was cold, cliquey, and at times even aggressive, which left me—and others—feeling isolated and uncomfortable. Personal relationships and gossip played far too large a role in the day-to-day dynamics of Deeplocal. It was clear that favoritism and behind-the-scenes drama influenced how people were treated, and it created an environment where some coworkers struggled to focus or perform their jobs effectively. It was disappointing to see a workplace operate more like a high school than a professional setting, especially when so much potential was being overshadowed by unnecessary conflict and immaturity.

Best people, worst parent company

Pros

- so many women in leadership! Any fears about the old days of gender inequity (and nepotism) should be shelved. - benefits are great, truly - if you're a parent (or future parent) you will have a hard time finding a better offer. - you will do some of the best work of your career here, but you will also have some of the best coworkers you've ever worked alongside. - I LOVE working from the studio/shop, but we're also flexible about working from home. A+ good vibes.

Cons

- our parent company gives us massive road blocks, we can't been as nimble as we'd like to be - sometimes we're bad at communicating across silos, and the different business units (Gumband included) make it feel like we're working on separate strategies - I feel like I can't take a day off without getting a Slack message - we treat everything as an emergency and it creates problems with boundaries - everyone gets nervous about layoffs because we had a rapid uncontrollable growth period (however with our new leadership I'm confident this won't happen) - we don't know how to say no to clients :(
