Pros

The Marketing team, Estate Directors, Wine Makers and agriculture teams are the best part of the company. They pour their heart and soul into the portfolio of brands and do it with kindness and grace. They also offer great benefits

Cons

I did not want to leave, but I HAD to in order protect my mental health due to the unfortunate and relentless toxic environment perpetuated by the president, Philana Bouvier. It’s my hope that this review will shed light on the true issues within the organization. Her behavior consistently demonstrates a lack of professionalism, integrity, and a fundamental understanding of the business she leads. Her tendency to spread falsehoods and manipulate situations erodes the trust that should be the foundation of any workplace. Employees, including myself, have borne the brunt of her disrespectful behavior. Her habit of disregarding ideas, belittling efforts, and displaying a complete lack of faith in her team has resulted in a mass exodus of talent. In my time there, over 15 colleagues left, all citing her leadership as the primary reason. One of the most concerning aspects is her tendency to gaslight employees. Rather than acknowledging valid concerns, she distorts facts and deflects blame, making it difficult for any meaningful dialogue or progress to occur. It’s disheartening to witness the toll this leadership style takes on an otherwise promising organization. While I am no longer a part of DeMeine Estates I implore those considering involvement to think twice. The president’s behavior undermines the potential for growth, innovation, and a positive work culture. My experience was marred by the unprofessional, disrespectful, and toxic leadership. I write this review not out of spite, but with the hope that prospective employees and stakeholders will recognize the true source of the organization’s challenges and demand the positive change it so desperately needs. Furthermore, it’s crucial to acknowledge that the detrimental effects of the president’s toxic leadership extend far beyond her immediate interactions. Her behavior acts as a poison that seeps into every corner of the organization, contaminating the work culture and stifling productivity. The atmosphere of mistrust and disrespect she fosters trickles down to other levels of management, perpetuating a cycle of negativity. It hampers effective communication, teamwork, and collaboration, ultimately hindering the organization’s ability to achieve its goals. While some might argue that individual employees can rise above such challenges, the reality is that a leader sets the tone for the entire company. When the president herself demonstrates a lack of accountability, transparency, and empathy, it normalizes these behaviors and discourages others from upholding higher standards. In sum, the president’s toxic leadership has a far-reaching impact that extends well beyond her immediate interactions. It poisons the well across the entire company. As I reflect on my time at DeMeine Estatea I can’t help but hope that her behavior will be recognized and addressed for the sake of everyone involved.

Pros

The amazing winemakers are truly the bright light of the organization, along with a handful of wonderful people that are trying their hardest to make this a better place.

Cons

Demeine Estates and their parent company Lawrence Wine Estates is largely an accumulation of dangerously under-qualified individuals who are clawing for social recognition but fall short. Their unmeasured decisions and wreckless actions are now starting to derail some of the most historic Napa Valley brands - which is heartbreaking to witness, let alone be apart of. They hide behind the buzzwords “startup” and “disruptive” in hopes of blanketing the lack of thought, compassion and strategy put into their work. Gaslighting and back-stabbing are common practices between the many unorganized teams, making it a tense and hostile environment to work and grow professionally. Don’t get me wrong, there is a handful of extremely talented professionals and winemakers amongst this organization, but unfortunately they get discredited, shot-down or censored by the wreckless leaders and directors. Consider this review a public service announcement to search elsewhere if you are looking for a stable, inviting and healthy workplace. Demeine Estates (and affiliations) are the polar opposite of that. *This review comes from one of the many employees who have voluntarily quit over the past year. Candidates looking for a new role: save yourself time and emotional energy and look elsewhere.

Pros

Working with a well-rounded portfolio of solid wineries was an attractive selling point. Salary and benefits are also competitive. Office location and conditions are a plus.

Cons

Some (not all) of the current leadership team members are vastly unqualified, and show open distrust for those who are competent in their roles. Regardless of how many hours you put in per week, 60 - 70 for many, you will likely experience frequent and aggressive gaslighting from the CEO/Managing Partner and the President. They are all about hype, and in their quest to be disruptive, burn bridges left and right with vendors, distributors and industry figures. On top of damaging the company’s reputation, this makes it very difficult for sales and marketing professionals to build relationships and effectively do their jobs. They may also gossip and make fun of you to other employees, as I witnessed them do on multiple occasions. They lack emotional intelligence, are not leaders, and it’s bamboozling that they still have jobs after all of the things that have gone down at this company. Two stacked teams have turned over back-to-back already in 2021, hence why they have so many job postings up. They’re not growing because they’re a “start-up” as they will claim, and they’re not “restructuring,” (by choice at least), they just can’t keep up with the pace of resignations. This is a mild review, the fully transparent version is far worse.
