Pros

The best investigative journalism in the U.S.

Cons

Amy Goodman is a bit of a diva and does not consistently appreciate or respect the staff.

Pros

I had a fellowship at Democracy Now! That was probably a little different than normal because of the pandemic/remote situation, but was still overall a good experience. Really liked my manager and team.

Cons

Roles are sometimes not clear - seems like everyone does everything. I was asked in the interview about a lot of experience that wasn’t used in the actual fellowship.

Pros

* Amazing team * Amazing positive daily contribution to the world As an Intern, they cap you at 20-hours per week except in extreme written circumstances. The pay is high for the US, but not livable for part-time in NYC. You'll need a second job or some alternative living situation. The good news is that they're very strict about working hours. While salaried staff will work a *lot* of overtime, interns are strictly forbidden from working extra time. And while they may extend an Intern's contract, there's a cap of one 6-month extension. After that you'll either be hired (not likely) or will have to move on. DN! will not exploit the cheap labor of Interns.

Cons

* Fast and anxious workplace with morning newsroom deadlines
