I have been working at Deputy full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Lots of great challenges and opportunities while working at deputy has allowed me to branch out with a great working community to support this. Lots of very talented and open minded engineers which makes working together lots of fun. Even when issues arise which is inevitable in IT, the whole team takes complete ownership to resolve them which just solidifies why it is a great place to work! Not to mention the company culture across the board and perks!

    Cons

None even after a year! Being part of a high growth company means change is inevitable to react to market situations. Having a great management team to lead and support us and a great engineers who help make change easy means that we don't get bogged down and are constantly improving as a team and the processes involved to make it streamlined.

    Cons

    - We went through a rough period, however as the title suggests, we are regaining momentum and new management have come in and had a positive impact - Being in a high growth company, at times you might find yourself doing "too much" or more than one role

I worked at Deputy full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I had the privilege to work with many intelligent, highly skilled people and form some amazing friendships and a strong professional network.

    Cons

This is a company with leadership that is caught up in its own hype and carries an arrogance and lack of direction that will see it struggle to reach its true potential. There is a distinct lack of strategy, poor internal communication, ill conceived ideas and a lack of transparency. There is very little consideration for alternate points of view, with numerous employees across all levels being moved along for daring to challenge the status quo. Covid-19 has hit the business hard but only focussing on one specific industry doesn’t help. High quality, high performing people were made redundant whilst it appears that those in the clique stayed on. It took a pandemic to get obvious product enhancements completed at a rapid rate which was in complete contrast to the glacial pace in which they previously occurred. Deputy is no unicorn, in fact it’s more like a Shetland Pony. Don’t believe the hype.

I have been working at Deputy full-time

    Pros

The people are second to none, hands down the best group I've ever had the privilege of working with. Flexible work arrangements.

    Cons

Firstly, I think that some of the reviews here are very harsh and a little unfair. Another review spoke about "mass firings" which just isn't true, there has unfortunately been two rounds of redundancies in the past few months, one due to strategy change (that was admittedly not communicated or rolled out well) and the other due to COVID (which is a little out of Deputy's hands...). Having said that, Deputy is in a real make or break situation. The senior leadership (or executive) team isn't aligned and it's honestly all because of our CEO. Something needs to be done about him. He is well intended and passionate, but he is not the right person to lead Deputy anymore and is slowly but surely running it into the ground. If there isn't an extreme change of leadership in this regard, people are going to keep leaving (we've already seen multiple resignations in the past few weeks). The reality is that more and more people are becoming disengaged after speaking with our CEO, whether it be in a one on one capacity or at an all hands. I really want to be able to recommend Deputy 'to a friend' but I just can't right now.

I have been working at Deputy full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I am struggling to think of some

    Cons

The CEO/CTO has the best intentions but seems to lack any form of leadership and is very uninspiring, I think his behaviour leaves more people annoyed and disappointed than inspired. One of the first things he told me when I joined was: "Everything is broken and we need people to fix it", since then I have learnt that his actions make it difficult for people to do that. There seems to be a lack of trust between senior leadership and the "rest". This causes a culture were some feel they don't have any/little responsibility for future of the company. As result we see experienced, good Deputies that have valuable experience in high growth tech start ups, have minimal impact and are being under-utilised, which is disappointing if you were one of these people. Leadership has done a good job of building up a "us vs them" mentality, which I think causes people to think there is a transparency issue (personally I don't think there is a transparency issue) in the company. Even the language used in surveys, meetings and comms is very much "us vs them". I think leadership need to fix this mentality and make it just "us", doing this would shift the companies culture and the view of leadership for the good. The engineering side of things here is embarrassing. This is due to poor to no leadership, lack of ownership and little structure.

I have been working at Deputy full-time for less than a year

    Pros

A valid product that provides valuable benefit. Lots of room for the business to grow and mature.

    Cons

Distinct lack of maturity across the business, and a general lack of desire to change it. A lot of mixed messages mean that direction provided by leadership can often be confusing or downright harmful. Product direction is focused on user functionality rather than user experience. Even with direct feedback problems are not often resolved.

I have been working at Deputy full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Free lunch every Wednesday and great people on the ground floor barely holding the company up under the weight of C-level egos and their poor decisions.

    Cons

    - Weak CEO and terrible executive team - Mismanagement plagues the company - Complete lack of communication between execs and staff - Poor decisions driving the company unveiled monthly - Reaction to every slight issue is to mass fire staff at a whim then announce it a few hours later at a company all hands. There is a 1 in 4 chance that any company all hands will also include announcing the 'necessary' removal of staff. As a result, relationships are strained and staff are fearful of being next. - Extremely high turnover at all levels. Employees that remain are disengaged and looking for new jobs.

    I worked at Deputy full-time

    Pros

Advanced technology and flexible working enviroment

    Cons

The work culture there is too strong and if you don't fit in. You miss out. Rational business decision making that led to over 20 employees being made redundant.

I have been working at Deputy

    Pros

Deputy offers a lot of career progression and allows for upward and lateral movement for individuals who are eager to learn and engage

    Cons

Sometimes management is not as transparent as they could be. The product team also tends to bend over backwards for customers when they complain.
