DO NOT WORK HERE

Pros

The only good part about working here was the employees in the bullpen. They were great. Also the sales manager, she’s great too.

Cons

Terrible work environment: The three main executives who run the company are family members, which was not disclosed in interview. The family members constantly yell at each other, to the point where the everyone in the office can hear. They yell hostile and discriminatory phrases at each other, making the other employees constantly uncomfortable and feel unsafe. On top of that, there is no HR person. The only “HR Rep” is one of the family members, making it virtually impossible to report discrimination without a conflict of interest. Didn’t even know who the HR rep was until a week in. This toxic family complex runs the entire office. Everyone is miserable and on-edge that the CEO and his family will blow a fuse. Awful quality of life: Workers are severely overworked and underpaid, while executives come and go as they please and basically do whatever they want without consequences. Management told workers that “bathroom breaks are also included in their hour lunch break,” which is most likely illegal. Management has employees doing a million things, while lying about their benefits and vacation days. There is absolutely no 401k, which is a direct lie based on what they have written online and in job posts on platforms like LinkedIn and Indeed. Dysfunctional: Management has no clue what their strategies or values are. There was no onboarding documents or employee manual. There was no clear job descriptions or respect for job responsibilities. There are no marketing strategy documents or business goals for that matter. There is also no accountant, operations manager, or other basic business roles vital to how the business functions. Management had placed all responsibilities on creative and marketing roles. Wouldn’t be surprised if this was a money-laundering scheme by the way this company is set up. It makes you wonder if the executive family has any credentials to be running a business. Working hours and office: Not only are workdays incredibly long and draining, the office is drab and dark. There are no windows. There is no break space for employees. The only thing close to that is the employee kitchen, which basically has nothing in it. The executives who are family make other employees stay there from 9-6 on the dot, while they can leave to get their nails done, chaperone their children’s field trips, or if they just don’t feel like being there. Senior employees will also tell the CEO if you leave even 5 minutes early without permission. Funny how their rules apply to everyone else besides them? Horrible CEO: The CEO was rude and demeaning since my first interview. He undermined all of my previous experience to pay me less than what the originally salary range was. He has constant outbursts of yelling and screaming. He was verbally abusive to his family members and other employees. He also makes fun of clients after meeting them. For example, one of the clients who was a plus-size woman, he called “the ginormous lady” in front of the whole office.. The CEO was also particularly offensive to workers of color and women, treating them significantly worse than other members of the team. He has made racist, stereotypical, and misogynistic remarks to employees. He is also incredibly homophobic and transphobic. Honestly, a terrible human being all around whose presence dictates the negative, abusive, and toxic work environment at Dermelect.

Pros

Company work environment is welcoming and inclusive, teams work together cross functionally often, learned a lot from this opportunity.

Cons

Need to be able to multitask with projects; a skill that helps long-term.
