Pros

Great co-workers, highly professionals, collaborative, friendly and mission-driven. They are committed to deliver high quality services to the global development community. Nice working environment (office space, fresh food and beverages). Flexible schedules and very international atmosphere.

Cons

Staff is overworked. The number of projects to be implemented regularly exceeds the staff capacity. High turn-over aggravates the situation. Management model focused on revenue, the importance of people and their well-being only seems to be a marketing slogan. Leadership team is very detached from operations challenges. Salary disparities between staff is tremendous, no transparency on salary structure nor clarity on career development opportunities. Unclear structure, processes and translation of company objectives into team and individual objectives.

Pros

Attractive and lively place of work with a great international community. A fun group of like-minded young professionals. Flexible schedule with the possibility to work remotely. Attempts to make the work-life balance better.

Cons

Unclear contract conditions during the recruitment process. Almost all employees, when made an offer, are offered freelance contracts. However, the terms and conditions of the contract don't follow a typical freelance situation. Others in similar positions are offered employee contracts which include benefits such as vacation days, etc. No transparency to why specific people are offered one contract compared to the other. Offers flexitime, but depending on your role you could be frequently overworked without every gaining an opportunity to reclaim your time. Extra time goes unnoticed and unrewarded. Significant salary disparities between staff within similar functions and even greater disparities between teams and offices. As most employees are young professionals they don't have the confidence to negotiate salaries before signing contracts. Initial offers are typically quite low which make it very complicated to have significant increases during the yearly salary review. Employees are also almost never included in the conversation during salary reviews, once again not a transparent system. Some employees are mislead into the possibilities of specific projects or career growth. Many things are not guaranteed and promises are not kept nor respected. Poor training and onboarding structure. Career development is challenging unless you're a person who takes a lot of initiative and makes it clear on what you want to do. Difficult to make transitions and evolve in your role.

Pros

Intelligent and mission-driven colleagues who really believe in Devex’s mission and want to improve the global development sector for the better

Cons

There are many issues in the company that the management chooses to ignore and cover up with “startup growth pains” and other excuses when the company itself and the work culture is far from being a startup. Many (especially junior) employees at the end of the hiring process are being forced to sign a freelance periodic contract which means they are working full time but are not getting any social security benefits, holidays or sick leave. This also leaves the employee in a position where Devex can stop the contract whenever they want to. A lot of people have been leaving the company recently, probably because of the unfair compensation and conditions. Many teams are understaffed and overworked as the workload has risen but management refuses to allocate budget to hire more people and keeps signing freelance contracts with new full-time employees.
