Pros

Surrounded by some of the smartest people in the industry, all rowing in the same direction and placing the client first. Though the firm has grown substantially over the years (both AUM and employees), the massive political infighting and jockeying for position associated with other firms has been avoided and/or eliminated. Recent changes clear the way for firm wide focus on delivering performance and taking care of clients.

Cons

Any cons associated with the firm are more industry 'cons' than anything else. Fee compression and proliferation of ETFs are just a couple of potholes in the road, but the firm is well positioned to manage through them.

Pros

Great benefits, flexible time, 401 k, health care.

Cons

Subpar cash compensation. Rampant favoritism. Bloated organization. Weak product profile. Abuse of power. First CEO: accomplished liar, second: spineless, third: rubber stamp.

Key man risk

Pros

Plenty of freedom to operate.

Cons

Too much politics and uncertainty. No investment culture. The investment philosophy they market has nothing to do with how they operate internally. Given long record of bad performance, sales targets are virtually un achievable. Turnover has been high last three years. Key man risk.

Thank you for your comments. As someone who has been with the company for many years, I’m sure you have seen many changes. Change can be hard, but change is also necessary in order for a company to grow and meet the evolving needs of clients. We believe our client first approach and long-term focus are keys to our continued success. Diamond Hill has superior long-term investment results and a robust, consistent investment process that has been in place since the founding of the firm. Morningstar, Inc., a respected, independent research and ratings firm, recently said Diamond Hill’s “measured approach has rewarded investors through strong stock-picking over the long haul. Diamond Hill’s disciplined process, rooted in deep, fundamental analysis, earns several of the firm’s strategies medalist ratings.” With respect to turnover, you’re right. Turnover has been higher than usual recently. We have a long history of significantly lower turnover than the industry average, so turnover can seem unsettling. That said, some attrition is necessary for a healthy business. If you have been with the company for a long time, you know that succession planning is a critical aspect of our fiduciary responsibility and that we regularly and proactively communicate our plans, with the long-term interests of our clients in mind. I am always interested in hearing directly from employees. Please stop by and let’s chat. Heather Brilliant
