I was part of a very good, motivated team that was always aligned with the company’s needs. And this isn’t just talk — the results and metrics spoke for themselves.
Yet, on a Tuesday, both our team and another team in Timisoara were laid off all at once, with no warning. Zero heads-up, zero discussions, zero transparency. From the local management, there wasn’t even the slightest hint that things might go this way. On the contrary, we were constantly reassured that everything was stable, even being encouraged — with suspicious enthusiasm — to make major personal investments (cars, apartments).
At all-hands meetings, the CEO obsessively repeated that we were 20% below target, but the target itself was completely unrealistic — ~20% YOY growth expected regardless of reality. The ironic part? The company was profitable. They bought another company at the start of the year and built a new development team in Berlin. In Germany, hiring for the same roles we had here, continued smoothly less than a month before we were let go.
As for local management… my experience was very disappointing. In the past, individual layoffs were handled decently, with reasonable packages. This time, the offer we received was unacceptable, and there was zero effort to get anything better for us. Involvement and communication gradually disappeared over the past year, to the point where it seemed there was no local leadership at all.
