Extreme Toxic Workplace

Pros

Beauty experience, that’s it lol

Cons

If you’re looking to feel completely drained and undervalued, this is the place. It’s easily the most unprofessional work environment I’ve experienced, and that’s saying a lot. Management often uses fear-based tactics, telling employees things like they won’t get hired anywhere else or won’t succeed beyond this role, just to keep them from leaving. It creates a really toxic atmosphere where you’re constantly made to feel like you’re not good enough. The company itself has a lot of potential, but the focus is stuck on low-quality, clickbait-style content rather than actually building something meaningful. Any attempt to bring fresh ideas or elevate the brand gets shut down immediately. There’s a strong resistance to change, almost like they’re determined to stay outdated. Leadership is extremely reactive and unprofessional, often making decisions based on emotions rather than strategy. On top of that, employees are monitored on cameras and even have their conversations listened to, which feels invasive and uncomfortable. It might be okay if you’re just looking to gain some quick experience, but beyond that, it’s not worth your time. And if you do end up here, take everything leadership says with a grain of salt.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE

Pros

you form trauma-bonds with your co-workers *which is not a good thing*

Cons

I would just scroll past the job posting. There is minimal onboarding or formal training, and employees are expected to figure things out on their own. While self-directed learning can be valuable, in this environment, there is little opportunity for growth. Most tasks involved skills I already possessed before joining. Leadership, including the CEO and CCO, often makes decisions that feel emotionally driven and ego-centered. There is a noticeable lack of respect for employees’ time, and staff (which they hardly have) are frequently expected to respond immediately to demands without appropriate time and compensation. Promises of growth and advancement rarely happen, especially given that their turnover rate is so high, and the workplace culture often feels more retaliatory than supportive. There is also a constant lack of communication between the CEO and CCO, and they frequently change creative direction and expectations, which makes it difficult to know what needs to be done. This environment is toxic and unprofessional, and management can be so performative that it feels extremely uncomfortable to be around. Proceed with caution before moving forward with them. The pay is not worth the stress.

Pros

Free makeup, if that is what you like.

Cons

If you're considering taking a chance on a small business, I would recommend not taking it here. Dominique lacks structure, growth, strong leadership, and overall professionalism. During my time here, I experienced both its "busy" and slower periods, and it quickly became clear that the business cannot operate like a large corporate beauty brand it attempts to be - despite trying to emulate one without the infrastructure, systems, budget, or leadership alignment to support it. Throughout my time there, leadership consistently struggled to align on vision, strategy, and overall execution. Budgets were tight, making it hard to accomplish "big moments" asked for. Meetings were often uncomfortable and marked by visible tension and frequent disagreements, signaling a lack of unified direction for the brand. This disconnect trickled down to day-to-day operations and created an unstable work environment and results. In addition, there is constant team restructuring, which you will quickly notice once employed. There is no true management layer or long-standing leadership structure. I eventually reached a manager-level role, only to be let go extremely unexpectedly. The termination itself was handled in a deeply unprofessional and humiliating manner. I was fired in front of staff, with the door left open so others could hear. At no point in my career have I ever experienced something so inappropriate - not even at major corporate companies I had been at prior. It felt intentional, fear-inducing for others, and completely lacking in basic respect. What made the situation even more troubling was that prior to this, my role never felt unstable. I was never warned, disciplined, or led to believe my job was at risk. Beyond leadership misalignment, there is a notable lack of professionalism overall. Meetings were frequently disrupted by inappropriate behavior, including taking phone calls, and excessive profanity, even when framed as jokes. Regardless of team size (ours was tiny), employees should not be subjected to emotional outbursts or leadership's frustration. Maintaining emotional regulation and professionalism is a basic expectation. At times, I truly wished we had HR. Leadership often emphasized "not taking things personally," yet nearly all major decisions and interactions felt emotionally driven. On the day I was let go, leadership appeared visibly shaken and emotionally overwhelmed, struggling to regulate the situation. There is also a clear lack of creative direction, guidance, and understanding of how the beauty industry has evolved. Stubborn bosses = no change in anything across the board. Aside from that, advancement conversations were often framed around questioning why employees "deserved" to be there, rather than recognizing contributions, growth, or impact. The language felt demeaning and is something I have never experienced in healthy leadership environments. While influencer-founder brands can be exciting, this experience underscored the importance of caution when leadership lacks maturity. I did not initially plan to write this review, but I believe it is important for anyone - especially those early in their career to choose a workplace that values them, supports growth, and treats employees with respect. Ultimately, while this company may appear appealing at first, it has consistently failed to retain a team for longer than a year. There is no long-term team structure, no stable leadership, and extremely high turnover. That alone should raise concerns. If you choose to work here, tread lightly, ask direct questions, and protect yourself.
