This used to be a great place to work...
Pros
-You get to work with some incredible and amazing people. -Pay and benefits are decent. -Buildings are always kept clean.
Cons
-There was once a time when I thought, “I could see myself working at Douglas County Libraries for the rest of my life…” Then the Senior Leadership Team decided that it would be a good idea to implement a Reorganization Plan in the middle of a pandemic and things have changed for the worse. Now, I’m not sure if I even want to finish out the year here... If you work in any department other than Customer Experience … then working at DCL is great! Being a part of Customer Experience staff, however, is a chaotic, inconsistent, and miserable nightmare: Your supervisors are constantly unavailable (especially when you require their support in difficult situations like dealing with an irate customer), the Materials Handling department repeatedly piles their tasks onto Customer Experience staff when they are short-staffed (even though they are never expected to take on Customer Experience tasks when you are short-staffed), schedules are unfair and have no regard for your life outside of work (mostly because desk schedules are published by an unsympathetic person who is out of touch with reality), changes are made with no regard over how they will affect staff morale, your concerns and input are dismissed with pathetic excuses, and nobody cares about you or what you think. With all that being said, almost all of your coworkers are amazing, kind, supportive, and wonderful people. If you are applying for a position outside of Customer Experience, you should definitely proceed. If you are seeking a Customer Experience position, however, I strongly recommend that you look elsewhere.
