Pros

Initially, the company’s flexible working policy and its emphasis on employee autonomy were highly appealing. The ability to work from home for a significant part of the week and the flexibility in working hours were presented as evidence of the company's progressive stance on work-life balance. These policies were not only attractive at the recruitment stage but also integral to the contracts agreed upon by employees, promising a modern and accommodating work environment.

Cons

The company's recent actions have starkly revealed a blatant disregard for employee well-being, autonomy, and even legal contracts. The sudden edict forcing all employees to revert to a five-day in-office workweek, under the guise of enhancing collaboration, has not only failed in its stated purpose but has significantly disrupted employees' lives. This move, particularly egregious for those who were contractually promised a two-day office presence due to personal circumstances like not owning a car, signals a profound disrespect for employees. The message is clear: the company views contracts as irrelevant and believes it can unilaterally override agreed-upon terms without consultation or consideration. The hypocrisy of the company’s stance on valuing employee well-being is now glaringly obvious. Despite its professed commitment, the decision to completely disregard previously agreed-upon flexible working arrangements exposes a cynical approach to employee relations, prioritizing perceived short-term needs over the genuine well-being and financial stability of its workforce. The resultant environment is one of mistrust and disillusionment, exacerbated by a culture that seems to infantilize employees, dictating rigid schedules with no regard for individual needs or circumstances. Furthermore, the toxic behavior, has been allowed to fester, contributing to an oppressive work atmosphere that many choose to escape as soon as feasible, as evidenced by the alarmingly high turnover rate.

Company has lost way

Pros

There seem to be very few pros left. It always was a wonderful company to work for but recently has lost its way and this is evident in the sales

Cons

I have heard that some of my colleagues in stores that hit there targets, they are all on performance plans because they never met the other measures. Yet our store that missed target in sales isn’t, how is that even logical. There are so many things going wrong, multiple of the same type of bases in stores so you have a smaller range to sell. No longer being able to quickly quote someone, this takes you away from being able to assist other customers who then walk out the door. Merchandising is wrong when sent to the stores, nothing is communicated, we complain about it and they do a magazine but still don’t improve the operational communications. The company says they want you to be authentic but heaven help you if you ask the wrong question or try suggest something different. We were even told before the roadshow not to ask about the fact we were being given multiple of the same base. How is that authentic. It is almost like someone in head office wants the company to fail. There is absolutely zero progression if you are store based.

Soul destroying

Pros

The team and managers are lovely. Carrot cake.

Cons

1) Increasingly micromanaged every second for minimum wage in the last year. The company cares more about the customer survey than how much money the store is making or customer satisfaction. If you don't put a customer on the sleepmatch machine enough you'll be put on a disciplinary plan. 2) Badly managed with marketing being often misleading, inaccurate or late. 3) Weekdays you can speak to literally 1-2 people which is soul destroying. 4) No communication with the exec team. Cult like management where you can't say anything bad to help improve the business. It has to always be good. 5) Zero operational excellence, too many new people in head office reinventing the wheel. Systems constantly broken, told it'll be fixed but of course never will be.
