Pros

- Most of the staff are pleasant - The work is easy - Some damaged books and merchandise are free to take - it's physical work (a pro depending on your disposition toward a sedentary lifestyle) - It's a household-name brand (if you like the status that comes with that)

Cons

- There is no opportunity for career progression in most of the roles - We're made to feel dispensable by the direct report and other managers don't have any incentive to care about us. - Warehouse workers aren't seen as equals among the customer facing staff - There are no opportunities to learn new skills. - The work atmosphere is depressing; no work place banter, only work related talk is allowed, no music, no earphones, - Serious suggestions for improving the processes and organisation of the warehouse have been met with nonchalance - The warehouse staff is made up mostly of men and management is also male dominated. - Misogyny has been met with nonchalance - The dress code is all black with long pants even in summer on 40°C+ days - Break rooms/staff spaces are an after thought - Casual employees have been told that work must come before anything else and therefore must accept all work offered - Hires externally without offering roles to current employees - There is no variety in the work - Work is menial at best

Worst job of my career

Pros

Honestly your coworkers are the only good thing about the place

Cons

This job still traumatises me to this day. The misogyny and racism are deep rooted and the audacity from SLT and board members is second to none. They only care about money and people are irrelevant hence why they’d harass you about work even at breaking point. This job quite literally made me want to die.

Pros

Most of my colleagues were decent people.

Cons

Micromanaging, bullying from above, favouritism, gossip, rumours, unfair treatment and much much more. The way I was treated was appalling and dehumanizing. I was micromanaged and bullied to my breaking point. This job left me traumatised. If the Australian public knew that Australia's most famous bookstore treated its staff like garbage, the company would immediately go out of business. Dymocks George St is essentially Amazon but with a better reputation. They don't care about anything but making money. This place disgusts me. I will never set foot in another Dymocks again.
