Pros

Free snacks and red bull. OK salary of you are just starting your career in Java. Good health insurance. Small employer match on retirement plan. Tuition reimbursement for some ISU classes.

Cons

Meetings usually do not start on time or are skipped because key people are chronically late or other things come up. Reinventing the wheel is common. Groupthink is an issue. Can be extremely difficult to concentrate during normal working hours because of loud off topic conversations. Some interesting projects but skills you learn on these projects may not be in very high demand elsewhere beyond general Java and git. After hours social activities can be awkward but at least there is beer. Salary not competitive after you have some experience. Unrealistic expectations. You will have to work extra hours or will be made to feel like you are not pulling your weight. Management inexperienced in certain areas and not receptive to feedback even when they do not understand a subject themselves. If you are working on a contract project you may need to start looking for a new job a few months before it ends. The benefits they do have are good but they are lacking several benefits commonly offered by other employers. Working here should be seen as a stepping stone to something better.

The EnSoft team is always looking for ways to improve and we view all feedback as valuable. We welcome the opportunity to provide information for prospective employees who want to know more about the EnSoft work environment. 1. EnSoft salaries for software engineers are nationally competitive. We benchmark using pay scales and cost-of-living for cities across the country. 2. At EnSoft, addressing intellectual challenges predominates over acquisition of generalist training. EnSoft’s chief customers are aerospace and automotive companies and US government agencies whose needs are complex. Software development skills for these customers are in demand but they are specialized. 3. We agree that at EnSoft, work takes priority over regularly scheduled meetings and of course this can be an inconvenience. Our experience is that the most productive meetings are informal, spontaneous and happen because work needs to get done. Regular meetings are sometimes canceled for the same reasons. 4. It’s true that EnSoft has an informal, relaxed work environment that doesn’t suit everyone. Yes, there are a fair number of random, irrelevant conversations during work hours. You have to be able to tune out distractions to work here. We don’t work in completely soundproof cubicles.
