There is a lot of pressure that cascades down from senior management and gets put on juniors, who seem 100% responsible for making all sales and new business. The pressure is not applied in a nice or constructive way, it’s more like a do more or go on a performance plan vibe so they are set up to fire you if needed. Which turns into make x amount of sales or you’re gone vibe. The training wheels come off quick and you’re basically on your own. They don’t have accounts locked and you dont get the benefits of the relationships they say they have, so it’s harder than it’s made out to be successful. There is a lot of money to be made by some people here, but it’s a very slim amount of people, like a handful of people in a 100 person office will do well, the rest will be very unhappy. It’s few and far between the people who are on great money and the people or are just above base salary and on their way out. And to be one of those people it’s not down to 100% skills and hard work. Dont get me wrong that is required, but there is a chunk of luck you get placed in a good niche with a good manager, and that manager likes you seems to be a factor. There is almost no stability in this job. They will cut entire arms from the business without hesitation. In a year past it’s almost an entirely new office, that seemed common year to year. They get rod of great sales people junior to senior, they get rod of top billers who have been there for 5-10 years, they get rid of senior managers that have moved around the country for them and made them millions of $ a year. So your manager might be loyal to you, and maybe even your managers manager, but that persons manager will cut you tomorrow if your in the way of their numbers. This job is all numbers, you’re personality is a distant second.
