Poor treatment by the management

Pros

Beautiful office, expensive equipment can be found everywhere.

Cons

Very political, beware of continuous bullying and harassment by the senior management. Be careful with those who had been there for a long time and HR seems to be doing nothing too. Lack of leadership. There is a high degree of favouritism and unfair treatment/compensation. Promotion, pay raise and career progression are always unfair here.

Pros

One of the best universities on the east side of the Atlantic, with the ghost of Einstein wandering the lovely stone walls. Great speakers and academic visitors always stopping by for seminars for the [sic] ETH and the public. This University has world class, top notch, heavy thinkers--there is much to be learned and enjoyed there. The ETH daycare, Kikri, was the best part of working there if you are lucky enough to have young children. The caregivers at Kikri are the most amazing and warm people, becoming extended family. The children learn Swiss German and High German, speaking as natives, and you meet families from all over the world. A great experience to have. The Swiss transportation is fantastic! Believe the hype.

Cons

-Permanent positions are exceedingly difficult to come by--ETH is usually a stepping stone in your career, but a good one. - Finding a place to live in Zurich will probably be the hardest thing you will ever do in your life! Treat apartment applications like you would one for your most coveted job! - The Swiss can be slow to warm up to you and learning the local language is close to impossible while holding down a job, especially at the University where most people speak English.
