Great if you have absolutely no morals and want to pay them to work
Pros
Get to work on your own, support staff is friendly. That's about it
Cons
You are told that your appointments are set with interested merchants (and, why not believe that? Obviously they've spoken to someone and they've agreed to a meeting, right? Read on..), half the time you get a 'I told them we weren't interested' or 'umm, now isn't a good time' after driving halfway across the city, burning your gas and paying for parking. And, when you call your 'sales manager', you're given a hard time about leaving. You're not going to get a sale by making a merchant take YOUR phone, to speak to a pushy 'manager' that will essentially try to guilt them into speaking with you. No thanks. Sales is a crappy industry on it's own, no one likes to feel like they're the gum on the sole of someone else's shoe and, that was the whole reason I took the job, the appointments. Thinking I was going to see people that were interested in the services. Not so, 95% of the time. Be prepared for a lot of variety store appointments as well and, unless you're coming in with a translator, you're not going to make the sale, because they don't understand half of what you're saying. EVO's business practices are also far from 'above board'. You're not specifically told to LIE to merchants, but you ARE told NOT to mention the 'flex pay' program. You're told to tell them that there's no MONTHLY FEE for the equipment (which, technically, there isn't. There's not going to be something on their statements that shows 'equipment rental'), but, instead, they're paying 1% per transaction for it. If they have a high volume/high ticket business, do the math. As mentioned by another, they're STRICTLY commission. So, keep in mind, you're paying for gas, parking and, if you want to get business cards from businesses (they expect 5/day), how can you comment on their payment processor unless you're holding it? That's right, the only way to do so, (quickly, unless you want to spend half an hour in the shop, and it's slow enough for the decision maker to be actually SPEAKING to you), is to purchase something. Budget for that too. Budget as well for paperwork (yes, they'll send you a 'package' at the beginning), it's a 13 page application form, plus pages for all the different options, etc. and finally, a 'work sheet', that has to be filled out at the beginning of every appointment. To keep your paperwork in order, count on spending around $30 at Staples. I mean, they expect you to pay for your own business cards...at $75. Ridiculous. Also count on waiting for your pay. After you make the sale, you have to submit the paperwork, which, of course, you'll end up scanning and submitting about 10 times before they say it's visible enough. (Really? You don't have the originals, you never ask for them, why not just fill in a box if you can't see it?) Then, it's a few days for it to get approved, next, it moves over to equipment deployment. You're told to tell the merchant that everything will be looked after by EVO, but they just courier it. If they can't figure it out, you'll be expected to go BACK in and do the installation. This also leaves the fate of your pay, up to the merchant who, if busy, will continually tell the CS Department that they don't have time, etc. Finally, the equipment has to be up and running for 48 hours before it's moved to commission. Another thing they tell you to say, is that EVO will look after cancelling their current provider. This is NOT true. I've been told, twice, to say I'm the accountant for the merchant and we're cancelling the service. To do this, you need a merchant that wouldn't think that sounds as shady as it is....because, if they get to really thinking about that, you're going to lose the sale. When you DO make a sale, the pay is great but, you're also pulling your own wallet out. A lot. Finally, remember, this is the digital age. Even if you get in there, the merchant is happy, ready to go with the program, what are they going to check when they get home? That's right, EVO Canada reviews. If they do, you're finished. Can't push a boulder UP a cliff.
