I have been working at Ecole Polytechnique full-time

    Pros

    - Very good school with excellent scientific lectures - Many students associations with possibility to get involved in - School has a great reputation in France

    Cons

    - For some matters, Master students are sometimes neglected compared to students going through the traditional curriculum at Polytechnique - Polytechnique is having trouble opening internationally.

    Advice to Management

The direction of Polytechnique is doing a good job at maintaining the reputation for excellence of the school within France. However, in some cases, i would advice them to make some concessions in order to open up to more diverse student profiles and to gain international recoginition

I have been working at Ecole Polytechnique full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    1. Best professor resources in France; 2. Great freedom to try almost every interested domain of science; 3. Very little tuition fees plus many scholarships.

    Cons

    1. Militarized management in some aspects (sports, ceremonies, .etc); 2. Far from Paris; 3. Courses mostly in French, need a lot of effort to switch effortlessly between English and French.

    Advice to Management

    1. Giving more freedom to students who dislike military things; 2. Encourage more diversified future choices instead of almost all the same elite engineers in large companies.

I have been working at Ecole Polytechnique full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Applied mathematics and computer science is what Ecole Polytechnique is most strong in. That said, there are courses in pure mathematics, biology, economics, mechanics, physics, philosophy, and they tend to be given at a very high level, and very fast-paced.

    Cons

Being a small and hard-to-get-in institute, there's not a lot of diversity: most of the students did the exact same things before coming here, there are only 15% women, etc.

  7. "Very good"

I have been working at Ecole Polytechnique full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Calm and nice environment, People are very supportive. High level research with good collaborations with other experts. Many seminars with diverse subject by competitive speakers

    Cons

A bit far from Paris or other cities. Public transportation such as RER B, buses are not very reliable. Only one narrow stairs to the Lozere station which is very slippy under snow or rain....

    Advice to Management

Administrative service for the residence permit or other things for foreign researchers are not enough. Sometimes it took too much time.

I have been working at Ecole Polytechnique

    Pros

The scientific courses at Ecole Polytechnique are definitely top-notch, I don't think you could get such demanding courses in any other engineering school in France or even in Europe. The teachers are most of the time world class specialists in their fields

    Cons

The courses are very often too theoretical, especially for an engineering school. You don't get to study work-related subjects until the third year, which can be quite frustrating. Also, the teaching assistants are sometimes not very good at pedagogy.

    Advice to Management

The military aspect of the school can be sometimes offsetting but overall the students are very well managed. My advice would be trying to propose more work-related content to the majority of students who are not necessarily interesting in having overly theoretic courses.

I have been working at Ecole Polytechnique

    Pros

Has all the perks of being in an elite school: great infrastructure, library, etc

    Cons

Too much administrative hassle, overworked graduate students, PhD salary much less than that some other places in Europe

    Advice to Management

Cut the paperwork down, and embrace English language if you want more international students
