Some campuses have decent administrators but some, including the one I worked at as a teacher, have cliquish administrators that pay lip service to the professional development and teacher support. Lack of planning, following through with plans, last-minute changes, lack of communication and miscommunication were prevalent and normal. Wasting resources were common as was the lack of an effective system of accountability that document the campus resources. Some of the administrators have their preferred employees because they stroke the egos of said administrators. Some of the employess that are in these administrators' inner circle are not only incompetent at their jobs but also unprofessional, condescending and bullish. Teaching is already difficult and it doesn't recieve the respect that other professions receive; add to it the varying needs of the communities that EISD serves and the cliquish, narrow-minded perspective of those in positions of power and it makes for a toxic work culture and a highly dysfunctional public school district overall. Some of the employees in different capacities were decent and collegial however there are plenty of teachers that are standoffish and isolationist making it nearly impossible to work as a team. This is important in teaching as teachers must work together by grade in elementary campuses and subject in higher grades. This district is managed by numerous people that have never worked outside of the field of education or worse outside of this district. Their work experiences and scope of the world is limited by this. They seem to believe that they way they do things is the best way and that's just not true. If you love and respect learning, inquiry, discovery and inspiring students to be life-long learners do not take a teaching job here because it will crush your spirit even if you're driven, resilient and thick-skinned. This district needs severe reforms if it intends to fulfill what it was established to do in the first place. Otherwise it needs to be abolished and absorbed by another district or replaced by a better and competent entity.
