Pros

great team mates and at the beginning of the company the culture was everyone's most proud and sought after trait until now. a team that put away their personally lives (or any work/life balance) for the success of the company.

Cons

the founders fired more than half the team in 3 months after they promised everyone this would never happen, all because the CEO forecasted too aggressively. there is no work/life balance, the hardest working people work 7 days a week and are not appreciated or compensated for it transparency and the company's culture are not important and you never know if you are going to be fired within a week or a month the founder's need help and don't know how to get it and are too proud to ask for it management says we have a flexible work schedule but if you don't arrive between 8-9am and stay until 6-7pm then they will get upset (even if all your work is completed on time and flawless) salary is not based off of your experience and hard work but if they like you personally and think you are worth it

Thanks for your candidness with the issues facing the company over the last year. I think it's hard to understand everything and the information behind decisions made by the CEO or management team when you haven't walked in a persons shoes. With all of the press lately, I hope you take a few minutes to put yourself in the founders shoes and understand how hard it is to be a female founder and CEO in this climate. That being said, I want to sincerely apologize if you felt that we expected too much from you. That was never our intention. As you know, we had a very trying year in 2016 and we are working on making 2017 a much better year for the company and our employees. If you would ever like to talk about the issues you faced at the company, as well as what you think we can do to fix them for future employees, I would welcome the chance to talk with you about it. We can only get better if we talk through these and make changes for the better. We are constantly working on it and evolving.

Great team. Poor Management.

Pros

Peers were highly motivated, fun to work with and smart.

Cons

Management had little to no experience and it showed. CEO hired a terrible exec. team (which were all fired), lied often, flaunted her wealth to underpaid employees, had tempter tantrums frequently and quickly burned through millions in funding. She showed no empathy when laying off most of the company right before the holidays.

Thanks for taking the time to write this review and provide your feedback. You are right about your peers being highly motivated, fun to work with and smart. All three are plentiful here at Educents. I’m sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with the company, and with me in particular. I have worked so hard to create a company where people are valued and feel empowered to succeed and grow. With the big, ambitious goals we laid out in 2016, I’ll admit that sometimes I became too focused on the execution of those goals and didn’t spend enough time encouraging the team who was on the front lines. While I could spend time refuting each point you made about the management team and myself, I don’t think that’s fruitful or productive. I understand it can be hard to be part of a layoff. It’s not fun for anyone. I apologize that your experience at Educents did not match my intention of being the best place you have ever worked. I am taking your feedback and will be addressing all of the areas where we, and I in particular, missed the mark on delivering a great experience for you. 2016 was a challenging year for us as we navigated from being a bootstrapped company, to being a venture-backed one. We saw quite a few changes and lots of bumps along the way. When we went through the layoff, we provided ample packages to all parties who lost their jobs…in fact, the packages were more than most companies provide. We did this because we care deeply about each and every one of our employees and their wellbeing. It was an incredibly hard decision for me and the management team but ultimately, it was a decision we had to make. We have made quite a few changes in the last 3 months as we have transitioned to what we believe is the next phase of Educents. I am so very sorry that you didn’t have a good experience at Educents while you were here. That said, I’m thankful that you took the time to share your opinion here so that I, and others, can reflect on it and think about ways we can ensure that all employees of Educents feel valued and appreciated. If you would like to reach out to me directly to talk about your experience, I would be happy to find time to discuss. Feedback like this only helps me become better than I was the day before.

Pros

There are so many opportunities to learn from others in this company. Everyone from the founders to managers are top-notch, driven individuals that deeply care for your personal growth and growth in the organization. They are an education company and live by their mission to provide affordable materials to teachers and homeschoolers but they have the same attitude when it comes to an employee hungry to learn and sharpen their skill set.

Cons

- My chair did not have the proper lumbar support thus making it difficult to maintain proper posture and this section requires a 20 word minimum to complete this review.
