Pay is a little low, it's in an unsafe area where you shouldn't be alone in the dark. They forgot that the integration and the people that do it are the business, anyone can order robots and safety cages from a catalog. They goy rid of the integrators.

As with every workplace there are those people who are gifted in a lot of ways, and are the reason why you show up to work in the morning. They will help.

Ask the question and listen intently about what the projects entail. I was hired from out of state and quickly wondered why my experience was relevant enough for what was expected. Sure, Mechanical engineers are expected to learn, and learn quickly, but there is a limit to the Airborn drop without a map or a compass. While there are efforts to align current designs to standards, historical designs had little standards, and virtually none in the modeling department. The quotes are written with your time shortened because you can rely on recycling old designs, many of which are unstable assemblies, and broken. The expectation is that one just "copy" the assembly and reuse it, but the issues are typically systemic and sometimes lead back to basic CAD protocol that was not followed. You are left face to face with the question of fix them, or rebuild and redesign the faulty models. Both options cost time that was not in your quote. Quoting in general is an issue. I have not talked a lot to the other Engineers regarding it, but there are frequent exasperated exclamations regarding the quote and application's involvement which drive the project direction/time/cost. These can be changed (sometime HAS to be changed do to error) but sometime you have to "eat the sandwich" as made, take your Tums, and wait for the beating at the end. You will constantly be stuck in the unfortunate position of costing the company money by finding problems with the quote (time, purchased equipment cost ect) and being slow to release to a schedule fabricated around the quote with manufacturing being vocal to their unfortunate position of having the tail end of the project needing to make up time in order to meet the build dates leading to animosity. The individual business units have rallied and circled the wagons to attack/counterattack/defend their positions /stakes/non-responsibilities. This is a serious upper management issue when the business has fragmented and finger pointing starts. The "team" has failed in this regard. There should never be infighting, and having been on both side of the fence in Engineering and Manufacturing, it is ugly. There are significant Engineering business issues as above, compounded to indirect business issues relating to the business as a whole. Ehrhardt is owned by an investment company. The investment company is concerned with only the spreadsheets related to business value and not daily activities. There was a monthly meeting for Ehrhardt Management where direction was given to likely improve these spreadsheets, but not progress a plan. This led to somewhat amusing workplace evolutions. Of particular note was the reduction/elimination of overtime coming from one meeting, with the following meeting speaking to the necessity of meeting deadlines. A bit incoherent. The complaints about "management" likely stems from the walking orders delivered from an offsite corporate team, and isn't necessarily fair to saddle the actual positions with the fallout from this. Everyone has a boss; everyone has to do their job. There have been round after round of layoffs, with the echoing inability to secure sufficient new work. Its a small company, if you are an engineer and do not fear the corporate cesspool, the only place you have to grow is into a management roll. This will not be fast, there are engineers into double digit tenures. However, your time will not be spent worrying about that much future, it will be spend on keeping your seat from catching fire.
