Recently, as part of the great merge, the company made to make a decision to cut music and massage therapy. This is understandable from a business perspective as they were not being reimbursed by Medicare for these services. However, the way the did it was simply cruel. They laid off all of the music and massage therapists from one of the companies which was part of the merge. This company claims to care about people and patients, but this move was anything but that. First, they could have at least had the decency to give a 30 day notice, but I wouldn't expect that from a company that is profit-centered, not person-centered driven. Second, this move was a huge hurt to patients. For patients who were scheduled to have music therapy the next day, for example, they would soon learn that they would no longer receive these services even if it was improving their quality of life and care. Third, our nurse-case managers were not equipped with what they should tell these patients who would no longer receive services. There was no script. Meanwhile, all of my co-workers including myself are becoming more transparent with our attempt to look elsewhere for employment. They keep purging people without much notice. Many of us wonder if we are next. This merge is probably one of the worst things that has happen to my company. They do not care about patient-care at all, if they did they would have take different actions. I'm looking forward to finding another job...hopefully soon.
