Pros
In light of all the things that cause a great deal of stress, failure, infra-fighting, unhappiness, and delivering poor products, the college hangs on to old ways of doing business when jobs were secure, the school made money, employees were a caring community. The employees are in a state of perpetual denial, which actually makes it a nice environment for students. There are much worse places to work. ECC has, at the very least, its union contracts (unfortunately it desperately needs them).
Cons
#1 problem is lack of resources There are not enough qualified people in management Hiring process is a joke Personal and political agendas dominate—partly due to lack of upward mobility, and partly due to greedy upper management and those who have been there too long. You must be aggressive and take advantage of people to get anywhere. Inability to adapt and change to meet current needs/trends of students today (very common now in colleges) Poor quality control Systemic problems and errors remain unresolved Needs of employees are poorly addressed causing much angst. Siloed environment results in poor communication and extreme inefficiency (lots of waster here).
