Pros

Emergency calls, flexible scheduling, lots of available over-time, independent work environment.

Cons

Low pay, paramedics shouldn't be making only $24 an hour. 2022 hourly pay scale: EMR: $16 EMT: $17.50 Paramedic: $24 CCT-Paramedic: $28 Minimal paid time off, which only starts after a year of full-time employment. After working full time for a year, all you get is 40 hours of PTO. After 4 years of full-time employment, PTO maxes out at 120 hours. Unused PTO doesn't roll over. No power loaders, even for ALS and CCT ambulances. Frequently held over our scheduled off time, up to two hours late after 12 hour or 13 hour shifts, which is hard when you have to be back to work the next morning for another 13 hours.

Pros

Very felxible in hours. EMT-B's get decent emergency calls which is good expereince.

Cons

The managment were shady to say the least. Before I arrived around 15 people got fired for trying to start a union. They had anti union propaganda all throughout the ambulance rigs which I think is illegal to do in Illnois. They are a union company right now and trying to fight it which is really shady to me. Just treat your employees better and you wont have staffing problems.

Pros

Some of the people were really competent and skilled EMTs with great personalities.

Cons

Most of the people were clueless, unskilled, and arrogant to the point of believing they were good. I’ve had cocky paramedics rush into a scene as stuttering messes who get offended if you correct them. One paramedic in particular forcefully removed a patient from immobilization compromising the stability of the patient only to then condemn everyone’s actions on the call moments later. Equipment is not bad, just dated to the point of uselessness. Supplies are hard to come by. Ambulances are dirty. Pay is subpar even with 4 years of 911 and firefighter experience.
