Retail Store Manager

Pros

Fun Cricket atmosphere and the ability to work with customers of all walks of life.

Cons

No benefits, less individual recognition for employees. Gross mistrust from management towards employees. I was a store manager for Elite Wireless and was actually awarded employee of the month during my time there, something very unusual for store managers. My store was always profitable and well run. Our local bank made an error with a deposit that was fixed by myself 2 days later but I was terminated anyway even though the error was both resolved and not my fault to start with. Principals also think its enough to thank employees that work long hours for less than comparable pay be awarded for their hard work by being given dollar store baskets of Oreos and Nutter Butters once a year in recognition of putting millions of dollars a year in the owner's pockets.

Pros

Nothing nothing nothing I'm only repeating nothing because it's a 20 word minimum for pros. Which there are none. The only pros you need is prozak.

Cons

This company is a complete disgrace. Even employees are contacting me about the disgusting way it is managed. No matter how "elite" you are, don't worry, they'll find a reason to write you up for not cleaning the managers poop out of the toilet. It doesn't stop there, wait for the trail he leaves to the front door when he wipes it in your face too. Not only do they under pay managers, but they even make you drive to other stores to manage them with absolutely no compensation. But it's not a 10 minute drive, we're talking 45-1:30 minute drives. One time they forgot to pay me and made me drive to headquarters 2 hours away to pick up my check or wait until Monday. They do not give you any compensation for travel time and continue to hand out personal information about firing and hiring people to other store associates WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW. This company is a toxic and unreliable source of income, not to mention brace face walking around writing everyone up for the job he isn't doing and pinning on his associates. Maybe they should be tightened a little more. Also I hope to god no one applies for a position as a manager, You're pretty much a baby sitter. They hire employees off the street who don't give a damn and take complete advantage of the workplace who are completely uncontrollable. Instead of working as teams they form cults against each other and disrespect their actual managers who support them because of the continuous demeanor left by the previous management. I can't believe I stayed with this company for almost 3 years. I watched people get number 1 seller of the year over me and I was the #1 seller according to our well thought out "metrix." You can't not trust a single person in that company to help, they will refer you to everyone and their mother and still wind up figuring it out yourself. I hope you're good at math as well because expect your commission to be short and changing every week. All in all. There's less stress picking hay out of a needle stack trying not to get pricked. Because that what this job is. A bunch of pricksss. GFYS

Pros

Discounted cell phone plans for employees.

Cons

Unreasonable expectations for management while dealing with unorganized district managers and unreliable teenage staff. Constant changing sales goals with unrealistic expectations. Employee turnover on a weekly basis and no training program. Managers are expected to market the company and individual stores with absolutely no budget. Micromanagement from upper management and corporate office. Refusal to change/adapt based on statistics and recommendations from store managers. Managers are expected to be on call 7 days a week, 24 hours a day with no work/life balance.
