Cheap and unethical

Pros

The commute was short for me.

Cons

Low pay. Did not supply needed resources, like simple hand tools. I used my personal tool. Would not listen to ideas to increase productivity. No ethics, they reuse parts from field returns in new products to cover for shortages.

Pros

Elma is a very stable company. Management does not likely to take big risks, they aim for very consertive growth. Most Employees have worked here for more than ten years. So Job security is probably the best reason to work here. The market they are in is a very niche market, there are a handful of competitors out there, but most are smaller and not doing as well. Elma is a recognizable name in the industry and people who work in the industry tend to stay in it. Benefit for Elma is also very good for a small company. You get 15 days of vacation from the start, vs. 10 days for other small companies.

Cons

Elma Electronic does not offer stock options like other Bay area companies, this is a big down side here in the bay area when your peers and friends are getting big money from stock options. There really is not a career path laid out for employees. People have to work their ass off for over 15 years get promoted to a higher position, and usually that's because their manager has left or retired. Otherwise you are stuck with the 3% salary raises every one to two years. This is slower than the rate of inflation here in the bay area
