Pros

Nice location with a canal Dogs

Cons

In my view, this company is not interested in you if you’re a woman in a Lead or Senior role - unless you’re willing to be quiet and comply. I was one of the only two women working in this agency, I saw them try to hire women with years of experience as Senior or Lead to a Middleweight/Lead assistant role. Despite my 8 years of experience in my role, I was not listened to by my lead, I felt micromanaged. I was told my personality was “too strong” (which meant I had opinions because of my experience in my job - I doubt they would have said that to me if I were a man). I designed their online presence: their website, I created the animations and images for their Dribbble and Instagram pages for 10 months before I was invited to a “monthly catch up” in a coffee shop, then fired in a back alley with no previous warning. They broke every piece of government legislation by doing this, trampling all over my rights and dignity. It is also interesting to point out it was their way of celebrating International Women’s day! (which they had no idea of, of course) Elsewhen say there’s no egos in their team, but it’s all about ego.

Elsewhen Response

In response to your review, can we say that it’s always difficult when recruitment choices made in good faith fail to work out in spite of a genuine commitment to try to make things work. However, we should be clear that the business you describe is not one that we at Elsewhen recognise – far from it. Despite this and recognising the work you did during the few months you were with us, we thank you for your feedback and wish you well in whatever you move onto. We hope that you find a role where your skillset and previous experiences are more aligned to what the business requires, as you have a lot to offer to the right role – which of course is the reason we chose to recruit you in the first place.

Pros

Since joining Elsewhen nearly two years ago, the Founders have always gone out of their way to make sure I was able to balance work and life, meaning I am able to deliver some of the best work of my career. I am made to feel genuinely respected and valued, in an environment that encourages people to be candid about the work and culture. The Elsewhen team always start from a place of trust with their staff, believing that focussing on outputs not hours makes for better work and happier staff. Elsewhen is committed to lean and agile processes, so as a designer instead of creating wasteful artefacts you’re focussing on delivering what is truly useful to a user with a ‘just enough, just in time’ mindset. UX is genuinely shared across product teams, with a product manager, product designer and developer always working together to make every product experience as effective as possible.

Cons

It’s true, the dog does fart quite a bit - but he more than makes up for it by being cute.

Pros

The company is set up by some of the smartest people in the London product and tech scene. You get to work on very exciting project with cutting technology, design and product best practices. I can't think of a better product studio where you will get both the variety of work at the same time working with incredibly talented people

Cons

It's a very flat organisation which works for some but if you are looking for traditional step by step progression than this might not be for you.
