Pros
• Work with animals every day • Working for a non profit is very rewarding, giving out free services for people who need it is amazing • If you have no experience, they will give you at least basic training on drawing blood, vaccines and parasites, anesthesia, etc • Coworkers can be amazing, I've met some of my best friends here. Depending on the clinic you end up at results may vary • Fast pace can be good if you enjoy pushing yourself, days go by quickly when busy
Cons
• One of the core values of Emancipet is that we should never sacrifice patient safety for higher numbers, I see that happen all the time. Stressed out dogs and stressed out people. • Being a non profit and constantly focusing on financial sustainability, someone from corporate will come by at least once every couple of months and tell you their big plan for increasing numbers with a huge smile on their face. The reality is they have no idea what happens in the clinics besides what managers tell them, and most managers have no idea what is going on either and nod along. This is super frustrating to be the ones who will push this change with no say in it. Oh, and they want you to do it with no additional support staff. • No breaks. You eat and pee when you can. Sometimes you can't. • If you want to ask questions there is no time. Go go go.
