Great place to learn and grow

Pros

Embark is filled with smart and driven people. There are ample opportunities to learn and get exposure to different areas of accounting/finance, such as various technical accounting topics, operational accounting, controls, data transformation, etc. The pay can be great and is transparent, and the benefits are the best I've had in my career. Embark is very open to feedback, which it solicits often - this results in actual change. Unlike past employers, I feel like my feedback is actually taken into consideration.

Cons

Embark is a growing firm, so things change often. Embark is also a bit behind when it comes to diversity in the firm, however the new CEO seems to already be changing that.

Happy Works?

Pros

The money is great, the benefits are great, you can actually take PTO, and...some of the people are cool.

Cons

The bench is where non-favorites disappear. Power stays with a small clique. Most interactions are fake, and yes, some genuinely awful people work here.

Pros

Genuine, sharp and motivated individuals who truly care about one another and doing great work; amazing benefits and culture; ability to create your own career path and gain tons of different experience. I wrote this when I started over two years ago, and it's literally all still true: "I've been welcomed as if I'm a guest of honor, I've been given tools and support to dream and build something great, I've been held accountable in a positive way, I've built meaningful relationships, I've eaten WAY too much and I no longer get the Sunday Scaries! WAY TO GO EMBARK...you've built something truly magical!"

Cons

Hyper growth creates lots of change, so things don't stay the same.

I love the people i work with feel like the leadership team genuinely wants to see progress culture and benefits are still well above competitors

Cons

things feel a bit idle and it seems like a boost is needed to turn the rocket ship back on and make the place what it once was.

Pros

Great group or core people who still remain at the firm. Competitive pay and amazing benefits.

Cons

Everything that was good about Embark (mainly the core group of Embarkers from the beginning) have left the firm. The C-Suite doesn’t know the business or its people. Our new CEO is in way over his head. He has no knowledge of the professional services industry. He relies heavily on the people around him to make up for his shortcomings and relies heavily on his ability to memorize a script. Scary times.

Pros

Amazing people, great benefits, and strong compensation. Everyone works hard and produces quality results. The only drawback is that bonuses and upside could be higher if leadership set more realistic company goals.

Cons

Since the new CEO joined, many embarkers (myself included) have serious concerns about the company’s direction. In my experience, he hasn’t demonstrated strong strategic or operational leadership, and that has created significant uncertainty rather than confidence. He’s personable and makes an effort to connect with people, which some appreciate, but that alone doesn’t translate into effective leadership. There seems to be a lack of clarity, vision, and follow-through at the top of the pyramid, and it’s hard to feel confident in where things are headed under his leadership. These are my personal observations, but I know they’re shared by others as well.
