Pros

The pay is the best in the scribing industry. Every department in the company is so helpful and they will point you in the right direction. If you have any issues at your hospital site, you have a lead CIM to help you directly. You are working alongside practitioners, most of whom are EMA PAs and MDs, who understand that you may be taking coursework for college. I personally thought the 12.5 hour work day was the best because I could work 3 nights (I was an overnight employee) and fulfill my full-time obligation. The interview process was simple, as was the 2 week training period that followed after being accepted into the company. The experience working as an EMA CIM looks phenomenal on any resume.

Cons

Summer months tend to be the busiest for everyone in the hospital, including the CIM. Sometimes a lone CIM will need to work 2 or even 3 zones in the ED at the same time due to staffing issues that arise during the summer. This results in burnout very quickly into the shift and, as those types of shifts rack up, into the job.

Pros

Compensation is decent, compared to other similar companies. They also offer a 401k and benefits to full-time employees, and you only need 30 hours to be considered full-time. The shifts can be long - up to 12 hours - but that means you only work 3 days a week, making it fairly easy to take classes or work a 2nd job.

Cons

It's a great job for those that want to become healthcare professionals - doctors, PAs, nurses, etc. If those are not your interests though, it's a filler job. The company promotes the ability to climb the ranks, but while there many CIMs throughout the company, there are only 3 regional managers and 1-2 trainers. No information is shared about how to transition to other areas within the company.

Pros

Great co-workers, was a great place to go to work every day. Good office location.

Cons

Ever since joining EmCare the entire organization has gone down hill. There was a day the company genuinely cared about their employees, but not anymore. It's all about the $$$ and not the patient anymore. There's a reason why EmCare has such a high turn over rate of physicians and EMA gave little thought to the overall outcome. Just ask any of the physicians still there, this company lost it's niche in the market....make that they sold out.
